S.H. Figuarts Ultraman series!

Postby Rody » Mon Jan 23, 2017 7:44 pm

...So, bad news for Ultra-Act collectors: the line seems to be dead. :( (I never managed to grab any myself)
...But, good news for kaiju collectors: the main Figuarts line seems to have picked up the franchise, and with a much more promising monster roster! :D

Four characters are already out in the wild - original Ultraman, Alien Baltan, Zetton, and Ultraman Zoffy - with several more scheduled for release in 2017, and even more still hinted at.

I have Ultraman(50th anniversary set) and Alien Baltan already, and I look forward to obtaining more!

Are the Figuarts and Ultra-Act figures to scale with each other? The Ultra-Act Ultraman has been staring at me every trip I make to the comic book store, pleading: "Buy me! Please buy me!"

I've eschewed buying the Figuarts Godzillas as I've exclusively switched to the large stylized vinyls for Godzilla toys (which I love), but these look so nifty. The monsters and aliens look so cool...

Ultraman himself is noticeably shorter than the Ultra-Act; although Baltan's tall enough he might scale well with UA.

While the Ultra-Act seems to be a more impressive figure overall, one plus to the SHFA is that it scales very well with other 6" characters, like Monsterarts and Bandais.

Hmmmm... Ultra Act is bigger, Figuarts is smaller but a more detailed/accurate sculpt.

King Joe is scheduled for a June 2017 release at 7,560 yen.

Tamashii's website also lists release dates/prices for Mephilas and Metron. No sign of Gomora yet...

You know what's funny about this post? I just ordered the Ultraman that comes with the buildings last night. Seeing the two movies last week renewed my interest in this franchise and with a Figuart of Ultraseven coming out in a few month's, how could I resist?

The Figuarts are supposed to be based directly off the original suits to make them more accurate and they have the knew waist joint system instead of the horrible pull down set up the Ultra-Acts had (which tend to break over time as my Gokaigers and Kamen Rider Skyrider can attest to).

$75 is quite high for King Joe though. Speaking of which, god it was so annoying that every time TNT did an Ultraseven marathon they always showed the King Joe episodes.

I really like how the knee joints are done on King Joe. I usually stick to vinyl stuff but that is tempting.

It does sound expensive, but with the current exchange rate the price should actually be below $70; plus, sites like HobbyLink Japan will probably discount it further.

So I got this guy today:

Oh, and this came in as well:

Image

As such, I decided to try some stuff out with the green screen and lamps.

And then these three were just done playing while trying out the lights:

So the green screen rocks and I can't wait to use it in my videos. The lamps are going to be fantastic for both videos and pictures.

Now the Ultraman itself is... kind of a let down. Well, it's great, but I've had to put in to have Amazon ship me a replacement because my god, the quality control on my figure sssuuuuuuuuuuucksssssssss! Like Kamen Rider Zx bad.

His joints are extremely loose, so I can't keep him standing up for more than a minute and his elbows are so loose I could barely get him to stay in his finishing move pose long enough to get that shot I did. Hence why that is probably the worst picture of the bunch as I had to take what I could get. The timer is also glue into his chest so I can't even switch it out with the red colored one. Oh, and the plastic inside the Baltan ship hole was never fully cut, so I can't even attach the Tamashii Stand to it. I hope mine is just a one off and this isn't how the whole production was because if it is, this was no where near a $75 toy.

That doesn't really do me any good though if I'm not ordering anything else in the same month. Plus, by July 7500Y could be $150 with the lowlifes running the country now.

Ha! I know the feeling. We've been actually doing really well against the Yen since the beginning of the year, but with the political climate in turmoil, i'm a little concerned where it will be in coming months.

I haven't had any major problems posing mine, nor did I have trouble attaching the ship to the stand; so hopefully you were just unlucky (I mean, you have my sympathy, but... You get it).

Yeah, that is what I'm hoping. I mean, the reviews I watched didn't seem to have issues either, so the replacement will hopefully be better.

BTW, I orderd one of each building set and Baltan today. I probably shouldn't have ordered Baltan, but **** it, I'll be filling out my tax return next week.

My replacement Ultraman arrived today. He is nearly perfect with nice tight joints and his arm doesn't flop down with the ray on it. Tomorrow my building sets and Baltan arrive, so I'm going to take some pictures with the replacement's buildings before I ship it off to Amazon.

It looks like you're making the most of your new figures and buildings. 8) I actually just got the damaged building set myself; I haven't actually tried setting it up yet, though.

Yep. I hope to be able to buy at least one more set of each at the end of this month. My goal in the long run though is to have 4 more regular sets and 1-2 more damaged ones.

So I preordered Melifas over at Nippon Yassan because he was my favorite villain from the original show when I watched it over the last two weeks. It would have been awesome if he had come with his Don Nostra cloak though.

So does that Gomora have a release date?

And has Orb been done in Figuart form yet?

I'm honestly loving the amount of Kaiju and aliens we're getting right now. I hope they more or less keep up this pace. I'm also hopeful that if we're getting a new Gomora we may get a new Eleking. I never managed to pull the trigger on that one.

It's also great to see Orb getting some figures. They haven't made a CURRENT Ultra since Ginga way back in 13', right?

My Metron-Seijin is in my private warehouse and I'm waiting for one more item to come in stock at HLJ before I ship. Very excited for Metron.

He's pretty cool with some truly outstanding sculpting details. My only complaint is how loose the legs are. Not that joints, just the round pieces that go around them to resemble the show.
