Japanese F-86 Saber toys ??

Can anyone recommend any Japanese F-86 Saber jet toys. I know there are models. I was thinking of getting a little toy that had similar, if not the same markings as ones seen in Toho films. Does anyone know of any? I have searched but not found much. Thanks

F-toys makes (made?) a line of 1:144 scale airplanes. They are technically candy toys, but in reality are highly accurate prepainted model kits. Some easy assembly is required and sometimes they include waterslide decals if you want the complete look so some very basic modeling skills are handy. But even a novice should be happy with them and not find anything too difficult. The scale is not exact, but VERY VERY close to being the correct size for putting with a 12 inch tall Showa Godzilla (or any other 12 inch version of a Godzilla who is 50 meters). Retail is usually under $10 but the prices of the popular ones can go silly high as time goes by.

Furuta makes a line called choco eggs that are smaller capsule toys. They are a bit less detailed and more toy like (you put them together kind of like a puzzle). They are generally a bit cheaper than the f-toys and also are much smaller so they can work well with smaller figures. They tend to be like micro machines in the sense that rather than sticking to a specific scale, they try to make all the planes roughly the same size. So a jumbo jet and a single seat fighter are about the same length.

Both can be found on eBay. Search "f toys 144" or "furuta choco"

I have a few I'll try to post pics of later. Sadly no F-86... Yet... Oh I almost forgot, being Japanese produced, of course you can find planes with Japanese markings, as well as markings from many other countries.

Here's some examples. The two on the left are 1:144 scale F-toys and the ones on the right are Furuta Choco Eggs. I don't remember exactly what sale each of the Furuta planes are, though I did calculate it out a while back and figured out what figures I have that they scale with.






The Furuta 747 is almost exactly in scale with the Heisei (100 meter) Godzilla from the 4 inch Hyper line.




Any 50 meter Godzilla (all Showa and some Millennium) figure in the 12 inch/30cm scale works out to about 1:167 scale. N-scale train models are 1:148 or 1:160 depending on who makes them and, thus, VERY VERY VERY close to proper scale. And 1:144 aircraft (and other models) are so close as to be nearly indistinguishable at this size. Like, we're talking within a millimeter or two.

If I remember my math, I think the Furuta Mitsubishi F-1 is technically about an inch too long for the 1:400 Kaiyodo "80 meter" Godzilla '84 (I know it's too big, just fuzzy on exactly how much) but it still looks ok together.

I found some from that company Stub nose like in Rodan and f-86D with nose above intake, like in Gojira. Also some diecast All not cheap

I guess bandai makes them too. The one below is about $13 shipped, which is pretty good...

Or you could save a few bucks and try building your own from a traditional model kit:

Also, try checking any hobby shops in your area that cater to model builders. I stumbled across the Furuta planes in just such a place here in Houston. I've also seen F-toys various 1/144 lines in hobby shops here in the states and even used to see the occasional Japanese candy toy (got a Gamera once) at the local shop I used back in Minnesota.

hobbylink japan has a set available right now. They aren't the same markings as in the movies but they are JASDF F-86s... And F-1s and some other plane. It says there's 10 per box so I'd imagine you get two of each plane.

Thanks for posting that bandai Saber. I had seen it before but could not remember who made it. That set of different planes unfortunatly has the Stunt team markings. Japans version of Blue Angels. I am going to get the Bandai one at least. Maybe the F-86D from F-toys to put next to my Banpresto Gojira 54.

I did end up getting this one. The price is not bad. It's nice. It already has the decals on it. It just needs the edge of the canopy painted maybe and the under wing parts / landing gear covers put on.

I thought maybe the F-86D was in Gojira but that model was not in production until years later. The one shot of the model makes the nose seem longer then it is I guess.

The D model was definately in the original film. I just found this via Google:



And according to Wikipedia the D model first flew in 1949 and was setting world speed records by 1952 and 53. Perhaps it wasn't in the JASDF yet, but it certainly existed by the time filming was underway. And with Tsuburaya's being a pilot and (by all accounts) aviation enthusiast, it's not too surprising to see him use what was one of the premier military jets of the day in his effects work.

Slightly off topic...But I've always thought it odd that every notable Kaiju, outside of Godzilla and the other Toho monsters, have fought F-104 Starfighters. They were in Gappa, X From Outer Space, and Gamera(specifically "vs. Barugon"). I wonder if there is any particular reason why? I always thought 104's had a cool, futuristic look for their time ...
