That seems to be a problem on all of them. The ones I saw in person weren't terrible, but some of the in-hand pics I've seen online look just dreadful.

I hope it won't be an issue with their Shin Godzilla, which is the only NECA I'm really interested in.

I've given up on NECA. The massive delays, the huge gaps between releases, and them doing inferior versions of what is coming out in MonsterArts form just killed their line for me. They should be focusing on the Showa era since Bandai is not.

Found the GMK NECA at TRU in Niles IL. I think it's really good! They're in the back by the video games for some reason, not in the front with the toys.

My 2001 came in from entertainment Earth last week. I was out all day, so he was hard as a rock when I unboxed him that night!
Here are some comparison shots of the 54 & 01:




The sculpt and paint on my Godzilla 2001 are really nice, honestly. Say what you will about the face or the green, but the details are very good overall, and the wash is gracefully applied and brings those details out further (Note that the figure looks best under natural lighting). In these regards, I think 01 rivals the 54.
The problems come in with the articulation. The neck is rather stiff, though the head's flexible enough to make for some of it; and the arms and legs are fine - though the legs could probably use a little improvement. The torso, however, can only really swivel - it can't even bend forward.
And then there's the tail. You may notice in the above photos that the 01 is shorter than the 54. That's not because of the hunch - it's because of the first tail joint, which is so stiff getting any motion whatsoever is a hassle, and it flat-out cannot bend upwards. If it were even slightly more flexible, there would be room for Godzilla to straighten out:


^Notice how dangling the tail off the edge allows the 01 to improve his posture a bit. As it is, though, the tail actively gets in the way. Honestly, the tail is still the main region where the figures need improvement. Charge a few extra dollars if you must, NECA, but your Godzillas NEED more tail joints (and slightly more length).

Ultimately, Godzilla 2001 is still a good figure, but it feels like a small step backward from the 54.

Hmmm... don't know about the mouth and head. Another big problem is that whoever's posing this toy isn't getting those classic Shin poses.

Oof. I voiced my concerns about the head sculpt and the way it joined the neck when they posted the unpainted prototype. Sadly paint has not helped it... still REALLY not feeling this one. Definitely glad I jumped on the bandai vinyl when hlj restocked it.

The tail is still way too short, but the biggest issue is that he just doesn't look like the burnt twisted abomination that he is supposed to be. THis just looks like NECA painted over a regular Godzilla costume.

I ordered March's Loot Crate DX because its theme was Primal and had Kong and Godzilla themed stuff in it as well as predator.

The Godzilla item was an exclusive NECA repaint of Burning G instead of orange spots he had green spots. The Kong item wasa Kong Skull Island coffee mug which is pasically Kong's head. I'll post some pictures tomorrow so you guys can see.

I'm going to leave the Godzilla in the packaging but the mug is out.

Could've gotten the box for 25, but even that seemed too much for the NECA figure (got spoiled somehow and forgot to post it here). It's no '84, but I don't especially love the '94 sculpt anyway.

Stopped at the Toys R Us here in Minnesota, and lo and behold, Shin Godzilla has arrived! Overall, one of their best and most faithful figures, next to the prior GMK Godzilla. The head is less than stellar and wish there was a bit better detail at the tail, but as an affordable figure for North American fans on a budget, think it's good stuff.

Got my Shin in the mail today, a really nice figure overall. The paint job is impressive, I wish the Bandai figure was painted this well!

I've read some fans are heating up the head (either with water or hair dryer), squishing it, then dipping it in cold water and that leaves his snout looking a little more accurate.

^Oh, wow! And to think: that's not even all the Godzilla figures release in the US in the last few years as it's missing the Bandai stuff for Godzilla '14!

I just have the 6" NECA Godzilla '14 and '84.

I do wish I had a 6" G14, but otherwise the only NECA Godzilla toy I own is the female Muto, maybe the male or one of the G14 minifigures also. The rest of the line is not for me.
