Greetings All,
I'm going to provide a bit of background before setting up my question-For a while I was an avid collector of all Toho & Gamera vinyl figures (usually the larger 8-10 inch scale). I began in 1992 with getting all the figures from G vs King Ghidora, and built a large collection very quickly as back then they weren’t so expensive especially when immediately released. By 2006 I had pretty much every standard Bandai MWTA or MISB. Sadly I chose to sell them because of financial circumstances, and have come to terms with the fact although I made a substantial profit, I could never get them all back again.
I am looking to start a new collection after being out of the collecting business for almost 8 years. I know many people enjoy collecting random figures they enjoy from various different collections based on their individual tastes. I however do things a little differently (which can be a strength, btu also a weakness). I like to start a particular brand/line and try to collect them all. I enjoy figures that are realistic looking, but don’t want something too outrageously expensive. Also this may be difficult, but a line with great variety (i.e. not 20 Godzillas compared with 10 "other" monsters total)
Lines I've considered
Gashapons- I love the variety. However the fact that some figures sell for $30+ seems a little excessive especially considering they are about 2-3 inches. Also It would probably help if I could find a definitive list online of what figures exist. I'd be mostly interested in the high-grade ones, none of the chibi ones etc...
S.H. Monsterarts I love the realistic look and detail of these. Of course they are very expensive, but fortunately there is only about 13 currently (according to a list I researched online) and 6 or so more planned. They seem to only be released every few months, so I could probably afford to get them about the time each is released. Of course I would probably be a stickler about keeping them MISB, but it seems the fun for most people is the high articulation and displaying them as such. I'm not sure how well they display simply in the package. Also since there is currently only one Showa figure planned, some have speculated that this line may cease when all Hesei/Millennium Kaiju have been released.
Well those are just a couple off the top of my mind. If anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thank You
