He's kind of Pac Rim's flagship kaiju so it makes sense.

While true, but because of his "legacy" of killing off GD originally, and his rather awesome design, he does stand above the rest, at least in my eyes. Not much higher than Otachi and Leatherback, but higher. I wouldn't be surprised, and am kind of hoping, that Knifehead returns in some way for PR2, either as a new "Cat. 5 Knifehead-type" or the fusion of Jaeger and kaiju to form Mecha-Knifehead, or something.

HAHA! And NECA said they were going to do a non-battle damaged version of KH too. Nice!

Otachi: yay!
Knifehead version 5: WTF. i feel like i'm being pranked now..

I recently opened my Scunner, which i had kept in the packaging for a while. It really feels cheap compared to Trespasser, etc. I can see that they were able to save money, but it really doesnt do the figure any favors..

The worst part of Scunner was that lame poncho. Very disappointed NECA went that lazy route.

I am going to be SUPER PISSED if Otachi actually costs that much. Or if he does, and doesn't come with some astonishing "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" to make it cost that much... Astonishing "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" as in interchangeable limbs to show wing and a removable tail to show it was cut off.

Otachi will probably be released over 9000(!!!) times like Knifehead. Knifehead and Otachi were my favorite kaiju in the film, so I might have to buy both. I never wanted the damaged version and I missed out on the first Knifehead release.

I was really hoping they'd scale with my SHMA Godzilla stuff, but I think they're slightly too big.

Also, want it already confirmed a winged Otachi was coming?

Sort of, there was definitely talk during SDCC of NECA doing a separate version of Otachi with outstretched wings instead of ones folded up. That makes sense since unlike Knifehead's body type, NECA isn't going to be able to reuse the mold for anything else the way they love. It will also probably depend on how well the first Otachi sells, but they must have a lot of faith in sales after changing minds on which PR kaiju to do as toys. At $65, I'm curious to see how that pans out.

Yeah as much as I want Otachi, that's a little bit more than I was expecting. With the other figures getting MSRPs of $20+ I would have expected something like $30-40. But over $60? I bought ED-209 for 70 and that thing is so much bigger and it has sound effects. If it came with the alternate wing arms, then I'd be a bit more understanding of the price. But since I don't have any of the other PR kaiju I just might forgo it altogether.

Then again, I really liked Otachi.

But it makes me wonder how much they'd ask for a Slattern figure? Over $100?

over a 100 or Slattern...possibly, but you know it will be in scale with the Jaegers which would make it pretty massive.

Though at what BBTS is asking for it, not too much given the size of the figure and the articulation. Their latest 12 inch tall (normal height comparison being head to foot) Gojira is pretty big and it is in that price range even though the sound effect is an extra gimmick.

For 64, that is not too bad if you look at the demand of the folks wanting Tamashii to do Pacific Rim MonsterArts. You know those figures won't be as large as what NECA is doing, plus the price will be definitely be much higher. I can't imagine them doing an Otachi and it not be at 100 given what they are doing already in the Godzilla line and those figures are much smaller. Folks wanted Otachi and NECA finally gave in. Though they did sort of forewarn folks that it would cost more. Given that, the folks still demanded it. If Tamashii ends up doing it later down the road, you can bet they will be asking for at least 60 on a Jaeger.

EDIT: They have a new pic angle of Otachi now...

a thought occurred to me that perhaps they could have had the wings incorporated into the figure. Afterall it is just the matter of the wing appendages expanding to show the bat like membrane. What they could have maybe explored is something like an umbrella styled mechanism. Much like an umbrella you would use to open up to keep rain off of you, the arm appendage right behind the main arm piece pulls down due to some sort of swivel joint at the base of the paw on both arms. When you extend that back arm piece down/forward, there is a tough plastic or cloth soft material that has a couple of slim mini brace rods (like you would see on the undersides of an umbrella) to help keep the expanded material firm and looking like a bat's wing. The inner soft (but tough) material would be painted nicely of course and you don't have to do arm swaps or newly designed figure to show a flight form. The paws would be on a joint that allows them to pivot forward for that flight look along with the now outstretched wing parts. Instant flight form and a more functional toy without having to create two mold designs. Of course it bumps up the price a little more, but at least a collector would not have to buy two figures and would be happier with just one that is more functional.
