Weekly Character Spotlight #4: Godzilla 1962

Postby KaijuZoo » Mon Dec 24, 2012 10:28 am

Happy Christmas Eve Day everyone!

This weeks spotlight is on Mr. Thunder Thighs himself, Godzilla '62 as depicted in King Kong vs. Godzilla.
This was the third appearance of Godzilla on film and for me, to see him up on the big screen as a thirteen year old
was the best time a kid could have. Not much has changed since, I still love the Big G '62!

The Gigabrain is easily one of my favorite '62 Godzilla sculpts. Here are a few of my favorite releases...

Ooh, fun. Will be a few days until I can snap new pictures of anything, but luckily I have a few uploaded from back when I bought the Gigabrain G62. I found him at Toy Tokyo in NYC. I'm sure I paid too much, but I've never seen this gold version anywhere else since so that makes it feel a little better...

AWWWWW hell yeah!!! My favorite Goji design! (I feel like the 54/84 suits ARE Godzilla....mutated monster with scorched skin, but I love the 62 design the most)

I'm in the process of attaining the Memorial Box Godzilla 62. Shame I can't post pics of it yet.

I can post pics of my 30cm X Plus Goji 62 later though :D

And I really, really want a gold finned Gigabrain Godzilla 62 :(

Some of these photos are way too big guys. Any chance they could be minimized a little?

Of course we shouldn't go too far without a photo of Bandai's original 1962 Godzilla. Essential if you collect this stuff.

I love the original Godzilla 62.

Sadly, don't have the room to display him. Great pic though Legion

Ugh, working from an iPad sucks sometimes... And imageshack is intensely frustrating on this thing.... Most of its features don't work at all...

Anyway, I tried to change the first pic to a clickable thumbnail to no avail. So, for now, I just removed it.

I love the building it comes with :D

I've always really liked the baggy leg look of the 54/62 suits. Somehow seems very realistic to me and I prefer it to the Michellen Man look of the Hesei series, or the muscular look of the FW Godzilla suit.

I've been picking up VP figures over the last few years and only own 2 Parababies (standing Baragon and a Kumonga), but recently I've been wanting to pick up some of the Godzillas and the like. I just don't know why I waited so long to get into those.

Anyhow, this is the same figure that was first posted, but in a different color scheme. I brought too much money to the last G-Fest and just bought this on impulse. I love it.

My first ever contribution to these things is

Image

The Memorial Box Godzilla 62. It's the only G62 figure I own, and probably the only one I'll ever bother to own unless Bandai reissues in a different deco or makes a monsterarts.

That is a good looking figure. I like that first Bear Model one a lot too... and i like the picture of Kong running away with his arms up in the air...

I don't think I will have many pictures to contribute to this thread, but i do have the Bandai HG Series 6, 1962 Godzilla

[sacrilege] i tend to collect more from the rogues gallery than Godzilla himself. (I was surprised at how many G54s I had actually) I think some G suits aren't represented at all in collection aside from the gashapon...[/sacrilege] I thought i had a Y-MSF 1962, but i can't seem to find it.

Nah that's great man. I like it when people specifically collect certain characters or eras. Makes for more unique collections around here :D

I used to not be very fond of the 62 and even King Kong vs. Godzilla, but in recent years I've grown to love it....and I also love the design a bit more because of the Largescale Marmit I have.

That Largescale Marmit is awesome sauce. Need to research if it came out in more traditional colors or not

Some M1 flavor. Not my favorite color variant of this figure (I love the glow too much), but it was affordable.

Unfortunately I can't contribute to this week's poll. I used to own the gashapon but sold it off in a lot a long time ago. I never cared for the color of it. Too green. I used to love this particular Godzilla suit, and how lizardy it looks especially about the head, but over the years my preference shifted to the, imo, more menacing vsMothra 1964 suit.

If I were to go and acquire one for the collection, it would most likely be The Memorial Box Godzilla 62 that Shin_Edda_Robo posted. I like it better than that Bandai Original. Although that Bear Model with the ice berg accessory is pretty cool.
