I was a little bummed at first because I didn't think I had a 54 in my collection. I think I'm wrong.
Figure: First Godzilla
Series: Bandai Creations Wave 5
Size: 6.5"
I don't know for certain if this was ever officially called "54" anywhere on the cardboard. The only pic I could find was the card back where they called it "First Godzilla", but everyone everywhere on the sites I google call it a 54. So here it is.
To be honest, I never really cared for the head of the original suit, which is why I like this figure because it takes some liberties there. To me it feels like a blend of the normal suit face and the puppet face. I also love how bulky this figure looks and the sculpt and detail of the dorsal spines.
I remember when I bought this at the store. I meticulously went over the paint apps on every figure they had on the shelf only to bring the figure home and find that the tail had been glued on wrong, leaving a huge sloppy gap in the bottom of the sculpt, which was the one part of the figure I couldn't see at the store. I bought a second one which has very tiny misalignment in the same section. Makes me wonder if they had problems with gluing the tail on with the entire run. Although I wonder if this was planned to be a point of articulation? On that point, its articulated in the typical Bandai places, but doing so really knocks the suit appearance out of symmetrical alignment.
Also my Criterion Godzilla arrived yesterday, so it makes for an appropriate backdrop.....along with the tree.
