X-Plus Vinyl Figures Discussion Thread

Postby bradleymsimmons » Tue Jun 26, 2012 2:52 am

There's a similar thread here over at Toho Kingdom but I didn't see one here, so I've created one. I thought this could be the spot we discuss all things X-Plus related.

I also started an X-Plus fan appreciation page on Facebook. It's a closed group, only members can see and respond to content. Besides discussion, there are also photo galleries of: each release, all monsters, movies posters, artwork, and more. If you're interested in joining, here's the link... http://www.facebook.com/groups/XPlusGodzillaVinylSeries

As a recap, here are the releases by year of everything that’s come out so far or been announced:
* If any corrections are needed, please let me know.

This vote was a no brainer for me....GABARA all the way

However, if Gabara ever does get the Xplus treatment, I sincerely hope it will be in the 25 cm/8-9 inch line and *NOT* the 30cm line. For starters, the 8-10 inch scale is my preferred scale to collect in, regardless of the line. Secondly, I'm just not a big fan of the 30 cm line in general...there are some very nice figures (the 30 cm Angilas and Gorosaurus figures immediately come to mind), but more often than not, the Xplus 30 cm figures just always seem a little "off"...

That model of Mecha-King Ghidorah looks kind of hilarious.

I'd like to see some more Heisei stuff. I'd be down for a cool looking Space Godzilla.

I also favor the 25cm scale as they usually just tend to look more accurate.

SpaceGodzilla is a subpar monster that seems to only get his due in toy/collectible sculpts or artwork.

Looks like the paint scheme of Daimajin from movie posters as opposed to the actual film. I was on the fence about getting this (I've recently started getting into Daimajin...really great, underrated films), but if this is indeed the final paint scheme, then I will pass...

I can't read Japanese but according to Google translate the caption beneath photo says
I tried to wear colored became so Ppoku want to look at the pictures that the original processing of large [play devil! ※ and is different from the actual paint. (201) Pic.Twitter.Com / WoKKneYI

Which leads me to believe that this isnt the final paint scheme.

I think this is another skip for me but I would probably buy any of the figures mentioned in the poll if they are in the 25cm series and the sculpt is nice

Titanosaurus exclusive will be the submarine, Akatsuki.

Daimajin exclusive will be a chain he carries in his right hand.

As king_ghidorah predicted in another thread it sounds like a 30cm Gamera will be next

I don't collect this line, but here's your painted version.

To me the yellow seems much brighter than it should, and the ratio of yellow to orange in the fins is a little off. But overall cool.

Sorry, but this is one very lackluster Titanosaurus figure. Very disappointing, but not the least bit surprising considering Xplus' inconsistency. If the price was the same as a normal Bandai/Marmit, then maybe this *might* pass as tolerable (I still think both the Bandai and Marmit's MH figure blows this away), but for the high cost, this kind of subpar figure is simply unacceptable for a line supposebly touted for it's "realistic/accuracte" figures at premium prices Sorry, but I have say, Xplus's 30 inch line, with a few very excellent exceptions, just plain sucks IMO.

Now, onto another completely different topic regarding Xplus.....GAMERA.

I recently bought a new Marmit MH figure. While I was picking it up, I came across a bunch of Xplus Gamera figures, that released in Toys R Us (Japan only) back around 2000. Overall, they looked very nice and they were rather cheap (2000-3000 yen each). They had Gamera showa/heisei figures as well as Guiron, Jiger, and Baby Iris. They seemed rather nice looking figures. I never really knew of these figures' existence until I ran across them today...Any collectors here who own them? And if so, how would you rate them? Are they worth picking up, or should I just pass? How hard are they to usually find?

They look awesome where I'm sitting. When I start getting my paychecks for my new job in a couple months I may have to hunt for that Guiron.

I am so genuinely confused by this. Where is it coming from? It's not like they tried and failed, it's that they set out for something different to begin with... and it's not different in a good way.

Ebirahsmeg i own that Gamera and I've seen some of the others in person. They're not bad. About 8 inches. They're reasonable price wise. It was before X Plus decided they could charge 200 bucks a pop for a figure.

Oh, and if you want a realistic Guiron I'd say go with the Rocket Pro figure. Much better than that X Plus one.

I have one item from this line, but mostly because it seemed like a neat little oddity. It's a bunch of tinylegion soldiers that would go good with a Gamera figure

They had the "big" Legion Soldier there as well...but I think I would prefer these tiny ones more.

I got the large Iris, large Legion Queen, and Nightmare trauma Gamera from X-Plus. They're all pretty awesome and are the best representations of those characters in my opinion. I'm selling iris and legion.

For 96 Gamera, I like the rocket-pro x-plus the best. That's probably the best Gamera figure....ever. At least the best affordable one.

Thanks for the info. I am strongly considering picking up these later this week (the most expensive one was only 3000 yen). I might get Gamera (Heisei or showa...I like both, so it doesn't matter to me), Jiger (my favorite Gamera foe) and Guiron. Quick question: Was an Xplus Barugon ever released in this line? :?: I didn't see a Barugon figure anyone on the CT figures page. It would be really odd if he was left out...

Out of those figures, I had the baby Irys. Really sweet figure. Ended up selling it awhile back due to space issues. You can still find a few on ebay every so often for about $20-$40.

I can't tell if that's the same exact one I own or not. It looks very close, and its certainly not the first one pictured above. The shell looks identical, but the head and neck there look short and stubby compared to mine and I don't see any spikes on the elbows like mine has either. Granted that's in an in package picture too, so my eyes might be fooling me.

I do know that mine is an Xplus and it came in identical packaging. I remember thinking how cheap the packaging looked for how nice the figure turned out to be. I found it completely by accident at a comic book store ages ago, and I think I paid $25 for it. On the bottom of the left foot it says "(C) TNHNF. 1995/1996/1999 MADE IN CHINA X-PLUS".

Anyway, I love mine. At the time I bought it, I didn't even know Heisei films existed, let alone Gamera ones. This isn't the greatest pic, but its the best I could do with a dead battery at the moment:

There is a Barugon...he looks ok. not the greatest sculpt. The Jiger, Viras and swimming Zigra have been on my list for a while now.

I have that Gamera. And the '95 version that goes with it. I've been trying to sell both for a while. Anyone interested?
