Finally! Some new Bandai toys!

The second Bandai Ultimate Godzilla collection has just been released. The first set was released over a half year ago and included 6 figures (5 unique sculpts and a variant) while this new set only includes 5 figures. Among the five is a new Godzilla, a variant of that Godzilla, a Gigan made mostly out of parts of the Gigan from the last set, and two Mechagodzillas which are pretty much the same figure was a couple of cosmetic enhancements. So yeah there's a lot of redundancy here, but it's nice to get something new with the Bandai logo on it.

Much like the FW Godzilla from the lat set, the GxMG Godzilla here features an incredible sculpt coupled with a strange-looking pose which I'd probably have no problem with if the arms weren't spread so wide. Otherwise it's a great little figure with a nice black wash which really brings out the details of the sculpt. There are 24 individual back fins that need to be assembled but they're designed and numbered in such a way that it's impossible mess up the assembly. All the fins fit perfectly too, with nothing being too loose or too hard to insert.

I kind of liked the Godzilla variant with the translucent fins from the last set. The Godzilla variant here is identical to the regular one save for a re-sculpted chest wound (from Tokyo SOS) and a spot of red paint. As a variant it's okay, but nothing special.

Most of the FW Gigan figure is reused from the previous version, with a few add-ons to represent the powered-up chainsaw version. Aside from that the toy is painted much more realistically this time around, with darker blues and silvers. It's a nice looking figure, but I'd prefer a kaiju I don't already have multiple versions of.

Image

The two Mechagodzilla figures look terrific, probably the nicest Millennium Mechagodzilla sculpts I've seen in this scale. Both figures is based on the Mechagodzilla seen in GxMG, one with the original "blue hairdryer" backpack and arm cannons. Oddly, while the arm cannons are permanently attached to the figure, the backpack can be removed if desired. The only problem is that three back fins need to be removed in order to attach the backpack, maximizing the possibility of losing such small pieces. The second Mechagodzilla is pretty much the same figure, but stripped off the backpack and arm cannons but with a different chest section featuring the exposed absolute zero cannon.

The assembly on both the Mechagodzillas is pretty easy, although some of the back fins (there are 28 of them) fit kind of loose and I had to super glue one back fin that didn't fit at all.

All 5 figures come with clear plastic stands that fit on the ankle of each toy. Why any of these figures need stands is beyond me, since all of them stand fine without them. Interestingly, the copyright information is not on the figures themselves, but on the stands. Odd.

I want to stress that I'm really glad Bandai is putting out something nowadays and I really hope they keep this series up. On the other hand, with this set we're getting two of the same Godzillas, two of the same Mechagodzillas and a Gigan that - for the most part - we already had in the last set. That's a hell of a lot of re-use, but with things in Godzilla toyland the way they are these days, perhaps 5 brand new sculpts is too much to ask.

Finally, here are some pictures for size comparisons:

BTW, when I found out that Toy Vault was making a plush Gabara figure I knew I had to have it. I don't have a lot of Gabara figures/toys but who can pass up a stuffed Gabara? Not me.

That New Ultimate Set is starting to look really tempting. I love the detail and the height.

While at the Comic Con this past week, I decided to search for some Godzilla or just Kaiju items. After some searching I bought:

Memorial Box Godzilla 2000
Ultra-Kaiju Keruvium
6-inch SOS Mothra (this is for the girlfriend, she likes Mothra)

Just got what's probably going to be Marmit's last brand new Godzilla figure for a long time. Nothing else aside from some variants have been announced for either show exclusive or mail order sales. So it looks like this is it for the time being.

Sadly, Marmit goes out with a dud this time around with their Godzilla X Megagiras style Godzilla. I don't really have much to say about this one aside from the fact that - at the very least - I appreciate the attempt to give this Godzilla a dynamic appearance. And the figure would look a lot better if the face wasn't so stubby. It's not horrible but it's not all that great either. I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

hmm. It's ok. I didn't like the legs on their G2K sculpt & they're not any better here. Although, I think it looks pretty cool actually from this angle & would look great on the shelf with that M1 Megaguirus (i think it was M1 who put it out) posed flying right in front of him.

It's by Y-MSF.

You can get one

EDIT: forgot to add that mine was apparently a special color (green) that was only available at G-fest. the ones on the website are more greyish

WOO MORE MARMITS! :D

I love this Hedorah. It's a tad scratched in places, but overall I'm pretty pleased with it. The Godzilla Final Wars Wonderfest fig is a let down. I love the way this thing looks, I'm just sad it's so tiny. It looks fine next to my Hedorah but next to my Rodan and Angilas, it looks pathetic. That's one of the reasons I haven't opened it yet. Just can't decide. My first Parababy is Baragon. I LOVE THIS TOY! I should buy more parababies. The only weird thing is when I opened it there was this weird oily substance on the inside of the bag. Does anybody know what this is? Disgusting or not the Baragon is a sweet figure. I actually prefer this thing to the Monster Heaven one.

As college begins I've tried to cram in my purchases before books and living costs decimate my bank account. Hopefully I'll have enough for the Monster Heaven Kumonga.

I really like the Y-MSF Mosu-Goji ...and I stick mostly to the M1-Go, Marmit, Marusan style Vinyls for my collection.

Here's a custom that I made of that Y-MSF Godzilla...

^ I don't think so. Their site is still up, as is a 'Coming Soon' section.

I got my Bandai Toy's Dream Project Godzilla 1955 recently, and it's amazing. Despite being colored different, it seems no detail is sacrificed. It's a most fantastic figure and I can't wait to mess with it with the Anguirus 1955, which'll arrive soon. It's a bit taller than some of my other figures, particularly the Bandai America Burning Godzilla, a head above it. And the closed mouth is nothing short of a very nice treat. :D

(Long story why I didn't get them in a set)

Well here's Pilot Ace's somewhat crude, bowlegged Mechagodzilla figure. Brand new figures such as these are getting less common these days, but that doesn't excuse the lack of effort here. The sculpt is all right, but a little soft and those legs look ridiculous. I actually like most of the head sculpt but those buck teeth really bother me. I really don't get what they were going for with the colors on this one. I like the blue and silver paint but way too much of the bland light gray vinyl color shows through for my liking. It makes the figure look unfinished.

Anyway, here's some photos:

The figure that this Mechagodzilla reminds me of the most is the original Bullmark figure. That's probably because that figure had a lot of unpainted gray vinyl showing through the paint job. But at least that figure was made over 30 years ago. The Pilot Ace figure has no excuse.
