I got the Marmit mail order 1994 Godzilla today.




Seriously, I really like the body on this one, and the paint definitely enhances the sculpt of the back fins. I'm even willing to forgive the gold spot on the chest thanks to the nice, subtle blue wash on most of the body.

In fact, I love this angle. Very movie-accurate:


But the head on this one really brings the entire figure down. It's not even the size of the head that bothers me (the '94 Godzilla was quite the pinhead) but that chunk of undetailed vinyl that passes for the interior of the mouth. On top of that I can't stand how the eyes were painted. The gold eyes and forward eye placement on the show exclusive version looks much nicer than the silver crosseyed look of the mailaway.

Good for you, I've already got the latest version of Dinotank as well and he is definitely all-awesome.

Just so happens that I won and already received some stuff from Mike at CT as well - Tempera Seijin, both original and Mebius versions, and Guts Seijin from Mebius. Just leaves me with both versions of Zarab Seijin to track down, and I'm good to go. I'd go after a vintage Guts too, but... eh, it hasn't aged as well as some of the other seijin figures.

That Ex-Red King looks neat...so neat I may try to pick it up sometime.
I really wish I had 1. more ultra kaiju and 2. more room for aforementioned Ultra Kaiju.

So does anyone have any good sources for bandai ultra-kaiju here in the states? A lot of it on ebay is coming from Japan, which is fine except for the high shipping costs and the length of time it takes to get stuff. Looking around at some of the toy stores I have bookmarked it looks like they USED to carry the stuff but don't have much of a selection now.

As much as it's tiring to see Marmit put out so many double-casted vinyl figures these days I have to admit the style is really growing on me. Some of these toys look fantastic when you finally see them in person and end up making great impulse buys.

Case in point: I picked up these Godzilla and Guilala figures at Toy Tokyo in NYC yesterday. The Godzilla is colored my favorite shade of blue and the Guilala looks a lot nicer than I expected it to be. Those metal antennae really give it a lot of character. Can't wait til the standard paint variant comes out.

Totally not as cool as Mike's Guilala (even the Mire-Goji looks stunning, with that color), but I did pick up some kaiju recently.

First one was no big deal, but the third-generation Baltan Seijin figure, 6" Bandai. All I need now are Baltan Junior, the Ultra Fight Baltan, Mecha Baltan, Powered Baltan, Cosmos Baltan, at least one clear blue Baltan... ugh.

The next thing kinda came out of nowhere. BigBadToyStore somehow landed some old stock of Tederos figures, by Marusan. Only one they have to offer is thankfully a kaiju I missed before and wanted, Ebireon. Still on sale, at a clearance price,

Brings my Tederos collection to a whopping... two.

Some new toys today...

The latest in a long line of Marmit Burning Godzilla figures comes from the World Character Con. The colors are growing on me, though I think it would have looked better without the red paint on the body. I like the gold paint and glitter though, and the color combo works nice on the face. The vinyl quality seems downgraded on this one though, very stiff and light. The arms, head and tail also sit very loose in their sockets, making the entire figure seem cheap. Personally, I would love to see Marmit do a version of this figure with painted on burning highlights like the Bandai Creation figure.






My disappointment with the Marmit figure was immediately set aside when I got a load of M-1's amazing new Guiliala. First off, this sucker is big. At 11 inches tall this guy is bigger than most of the Pilot Ace figures in my collection and is one substantial chunk of vinyl. The sculpt captures the fantastic vintage charm we've come to expect from M-1 and I love the paint. M-1 always hits them out of the ballpark. Their figures are always worth the wait.
