I got this ages ago, but never got around to talking about it till now. So, here are my quick thoughts on UA redking.
I dont care what anyone says; the newer box design looks awesome. It's flashy, colorful, and stands out quite nicely. The older boxes were so...dull.
Redking is one of my favs, and around $36 total, I couldnt resist.
Overall, I really do like the figure, but if there ever was a figure to prove that articulation can hinder great sculpts, this is it.
The articulation itself is fine, though my figure has tight arms and weak thighs. Posing him is more of a hassle than it should be, especially if you intend to hide the gaps as much as possible. Even standing can be troublesome, as his tail acts as a crutch most of the time. Getting to stand straight up is just not gonna happen. I've fiddled with him for what felt like hours (not all at once) and it is my opinion that he was not designed to stand up straight. You have two choices; bent knees with ugly overlapping parts, or doing the splits. I am not kidding. It's a real shame, because he is still really posable. He can even do gangnam style!
For accessories, he has an exploding rock surface for dynamic flare, an extra set of more dynamic looking hands, and a rock that can be attached to one hand via a peg. The peg itself can be removed when not holding the rock in place.
He scales up just fine with other figures in the line, such as Gomora.
I shouldnt need to go into detail about how well sculpted this guy is, as you can see that for yourself. This is an amazingly well done representation of our boulder-loving friend, but that is somewhat lost thanks to the abundant (and perhaps even unnecessary) joints, flaps, and cuts in the figure.
Overall, at $36+, I felt I got my money's worth. It's a great figure, but it has more problems than it ought to. Honestly, I thought joints would be easier to hide on a monster like Redking, who already has craggy and bumpy skin, as opposed to a relatively smooth character like Gomora. I guess not.
If you're just looking for a good Redking figure to represent him in your collection, you'd be better off grabbing the Bandai vinyl, or even better, the Kaiju Hyohon Redking (if you can even find it anymore). If you just want an articulated, accurate Redking, then you're good to go. Just be wary of the price.
