I got my copy from Amazon today and watched the American cut. The print seems much darker than I remember but then again I haven't watched the movie since that Icons of Toho DVD set. It still looks amazing on BD the colors seem a lot more vibrant than before.

Going to check out the Japanese print this weekend as I don't think I've actually ever watched that version.

Mine is on it's way. Now if only someone can get a Matango blu-ray out there...

Just saw the news about the Ultra series blu-rays - pretty stoked for those as well too.

If anyone can check if the disc is region-free, that would be great 8)

It's probably not Amazon's fault. MOTHRA is selling MUCH better than Mill Creek anticipated, and Steelbook has had trouble matching the demand. That's causing some delays in filling orders.

I preordered at Amazon over a month ago, which is probably why I got mine same day release.

It's Region A.

Somehow, not only did they ship it out today, but it even arrived:

Dr Kain, you have my sympathy. It's weird when stuff like this happens, and it's the kind of thing I hate too.
On the other hand, it's very good news to hear that the movie is selling so well; clearly this must have been excellent timing, and the release itself looks fabulous. Hopefully the new upcoming Ultra releases can achieve similar success and spur on more new, high-quality releases from other companies!

Have you tested the disc? Thousands and thousands of Blu-Ray disc releases are marked as Region A on the cover but when you put the disc on the player it's in fact region-free. Have you tested it?

Given that I play my movies on the PS3, I am using a Region A player, therefore I can not help you in that matter.

Huh...Some how I got a $2 credit when ordering Mothra today. So after tax, it came to only $12.92, & will be delivered tomorrow. Thank goodness for small favors 8) . I still wonder why MC didn't offer just a regular BRD packaging release? I'm glad the Ultra series have standard ones ($10 cheaper BTW...) than the steelbook releases, never been a fan of those, in fact, I think I've purged my collection of the few I had, (except of course The Mothra one I'll be getting tomorrow) I imagine how those would weigh down a shelf if you got too many of them.

Unfortunately I don't have a computer that has a BRD drive. I have a BRD player and a PS4 though...How would one check to see if this was multi-region or region free?

I was surprised to see news about this and the Ultraman sets on Bluray.com, it was nice to see.

Mmmh... I think the only way is to put the disc on a BD drive on a computer and have a program extract the info, or directly put the disc on a player from a different region and see if plays. Also, there are some region-free players (like Oppo, I think) that shows the disc region when it plays.

There are not many options I'm afraid

You could always invest in a Region Free BD player.

Got mine today and watched it right away. The plastic sleeve is a little warped on mine but the steelbook is fine and beautiful so it's all good. Definitely want to get the Ultraman steelbooks to match.

And WOW! Video quality looks nice, and I forgot what a great movie this was. I hadn't watched it since the DVD release years ago. Such a great film in terms of interesting story, effects, the focus on the Peanuts, etc. I'd recommend watching the first 10min of Tokyo SOS after watching this film, to see Koizumi-san's character return. I put it in right away just to watch that scene real quick.

^ I thought my plastic sleeve was creased on the edge, but then I realized there is actually a thin layer of protective plastic over the entire sleeve! It peeling off on some corners made it look like damage, but then the entire surface peeled off like a snake shedding its skin when I tugged on a loose bit. A bit weird, but I'm not going to fault someone for putting extra protective packaging on something.

Even after I removed that plastic wrap, the sleeve is still a bit warped on one side as if they had sliced too much plastic and had to wrap it around the case tighter.

Just watched it and it was beautiful, absolutely beautiful. My only nitpicks would be they still called Mothra a HE despite the subs being brand new and there is one scene where it seems like a pilot's audio is either missing or mistimed because he's screaming, but there's no dialog coming out. It's right before the 55 minute mark f anyone wants to check it out. Other than that, this is easily the second best Kaiju Blu-Ray.

Yeah, there is indeed a bit of jiggery editing in the scene where the fighter jet pilot spots the larva Mothra in the ocean. The print and scan used for this Blu-ray is in fact the same one used for Sony's 2009 DVD release in the Icons of Sci-Fi: Toho Collection set, so the same discrepancy is on that DVD, too. The Mill Creek Blu-ray also uses the exact same English subtitle script as the 2009 Sony DVD. The same print and scan was also used for a very recent German Blu-ray set from a company called Anolis. I'm not certain why that particular scene is edited the way it is, because on Toho's own Japanese Blu-ray, the scene is edited properly.

Good to know, thanks. Though, are you sure it's the same subtitle script? I could have sworn Sony's DVD had the reporter's name as Sen whereas MC's BD has it as Zen.

Yep, the 2009 Sony DVD's subtitles do have Fukuda's first name as "Zen."

Well it may not be the most flattering way to enjoy Mothra, but I needed a laugh and noticed the Rifftrax audio on sale for $2. I enjoyed this in the theater, and did so again just now. Also the first time I've used the Rifftrax app, pretty cool if I do say so myself.

I haven't gotten around to watching this yet but the packaging here is absolutely next level. So thrilled to see basically the best DVD/Blu-ray packaging I've ever seen for my very favorite anti-capitalist revenge fantasy. <3
