Who actually carries Mill Creek's products though? Target, Walmart, and Best Buy don't, at least in store.

^ Their online stores will likely carry it.

And Walmart carries Mill Creek releases. I saw a few of their budget DVD releases there the other day, and several months ago I remember seeing there steelbook release of the Metropolis anime movie at Walmart.

Meh, I'm right back where I started though with their online stores.

Looks like I'm going to have to go through Amazon, which is bullshit since it's going to be $22 to get it through them.

I had to search by UPC code to find the MOTHRA blu-ray on Wal-Mart's site for some reason, WM's site currently as the release priced at $13.96 and shows free 2-day delivery.

Not an extra $1.08! That'll break the bank!

$5.99 for shipping and $1.34 for taxes. That's more than $7 on top of the original price. I might as well just buy it for $22 from someone else that has competent customer service and will actually ship the BD securely.

^ Amazon offers free shipping on the Mothra BRD if your order total tops $25, so you can buy it together with the Godzilla: King of the Monsters OST and get free shipping.

Don't retailers like Walmart and Best Buy let you order from their website and have it arrive at one of their stores to pick up?

Yes, both Best Buy and Wal-Mart offer free in-store pick up on most products. I think Best Buy is a bit better about being able to get most things picked up in-store (however as there's no Best Buy near me I rarely use the pick-up option so don't pay as much attention to it).

I didn't bother including that as, come on, you could order any number of things to cover the free shipping requirement. Or, buy it from Walmart which doesn't require you to add more to get free shipping.

Noooooooo! My estimate of Englewood sales tax was off by a quarter and a penny!

Which will also charge you more in sales tax because the base price is higher, but even this option is less than the disk's MSRP so why is the price such an enormous hangup?

That's just it though, Amazon doesn't have anything else I want to order with Mothra. Everything else that can be preordered from there is available somewhere else much cheaper.

I'm not sure where you are getting at here. The cost of the sales tax is not the issue. However, I shouldn't have to pay taxes to Amazon because they don't pay taxes and are rewarded for it.

Despite working for Wal-mart I decided to pick this up from Amazon. Chances are my store won't carry it so I'd have to order it any way.

Mine says arriving today by 9 PM. I hadn't even noticed or remembered.

I don't even check my mail every day, so it's possible I wouldn't have even known until like...Thursday.

Amazon has my copy arriving today also -- their tracking shows it was handed off to the USPS so it should be around 12PM to 1PM (depending on when the mailman can get here)

Thursday is payday for me, so I'll order it then, and should deliver on Friday 8) . I've successfully been dwindling down my Amazon wish list as far as physical media goes by purchasing one item per week. I'm down to 15 items now, unfortunately the average price of all of those left is about $35, so I may have to scale it back to one every-other-week. I'm *Hoping* Amazon Prime day next Monday will at least drop the price of one of the 15 items left on my list, but if the last two years are any indication, it's not likely...
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Here it is, fresh from Amazon!

I have yet to actually watch it, of course, but the packaging presentation looks pretty great! You can see there's a slipcover over the steelbook for additional imagery.

Okay, I'm skimming through the release right now and so far I have picked up on two rather insignificant problems. The first is that there is no pop up menu, as is common with Blu-rays, and instead you have to go to the main menu like with a DVD. The other is that subtitles seem to be automatically turned on, like they expect you to go for the Japanese version, so when I turned on the American version it was closed captioned. So, two things inconvenient in that you have to press one more button than usual!

(Edit: I took the disc out and inserted it again and went directly to the English version and didn't have the problem of the subtitles instantly appearing. I guess the previous time selecting the Japanese version first turned on the subtitles.)

Other than that, this release looks fabulous. It's the same nice print that Sony used but with this Blu-ray transfer everything just pops more. I popped in the DVD and watched a single one minute scene concentrating on the finer details and then popped in this Blu-ray and watched the same scene and I just noticed much more detail on the people's faces and m the miniatures and whatnot. Solid picture.

It contains the superlative commentary track from Sony's release, but they've also gone out of the way to scrounge up extra material from the Columbia vaults from this film's initial English release. Both a black-and-white teaser (which I have never seen) and a color trailer for the American release are presented, and the image gallery contains every publicity still, lobby card, and every permutation of the poster art for print and advertising and so forth. In addition to the extras, the packaging is just awesome. You really feel like you've got something special in your hands, and everything seems to be a real sturdy build, even the plastic sleeve that goes over the steelbook.

I haven't watched the whole film yet, but it seems the subtitles might be new and maybe more accurate? The Japanese names have the proper accent marks im them that most translations tend to leave out just to make everything seem a bit more palatable for English. Someone who understand Japanese could better tell about this.
