Huh, I really thought that the Blu-Ray/DVD combo would be the only Funimation release simply because it was the only one listed - nope! Here's the DVD listed on amazon:

Anyone else picking up the Madman Blu-ray from EzyDVD.com.au? Last week the site went down for maintenance and for the last several days it just seems to be totally offline. No mention of anything on their official Twitter account, and since it's out in Australia in four days I was rather hoping there would have been some movement on my copy being shipped.......unless something's gone wrong and their site and orders are totally messed up as a result.

Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

Yeah I ordered all my Region 4 Godzilla DVDs from them about ten years or so ago and had no problems either (well, except for ordering an extra copy of Mothra vs Godzilla by mistake due to the Australian title apparently being "Godzilla vs Mothra", which needless to say led to confusion when the Heisei Godzilla vs Mothra was what I was trying to order ). I sent an inquiry to their official Twitter account so I'll wait a bit and see if I hear anything back (I guess right now it's probably the middle of the morning over there), but thanks for that address, I might try messaging them at some point if it goes on too much longer without any signs of life.

I just found it odd that as far as I can see there's no mention of it being down at all anywhere on the internet. Do Australians just not have forums or Twitter or anything like that?

Well, the website kinda seems like it's back online even though it's still clearly broken, and I got an email saying they were preparing to ship my Shin Godzilla Blu-ray yesterday though on the site itself it says it's on back order and that the disc is still a pre-order item, so.....yay? Hopefully it's been shipped/is about to be shipped? I guess at this point there's nothing left to do but wait and see if it shows up at some point within the next two or three weeks or so.

Just a heads up Wal-mart will be selling Shin Godzilla for $19.96. I'm actualy surprised we're selling it.

Huzzah, my Madman Blu-ray arrived today! It actually got here a lot earlier than I was expecting given that it only shipped from Australia six days ago, so that was a very pleasant surprise indeed. Part of me almost wants to wait another couple of days to finally watch it so I can make it exactly one year to the day since the Japanese release, but yeah that's not going to happen.

It's a bit odd that it has no scene selection or audio options though, just "play feature" and "extras". I checked briefly to make sure that it is indeed in Japanese with English subs, but still it's not many DVDs or Blu-rays I can recall that don't have those menus whatsoever. Either way I'm looking forward to watching it at long last later tonight!

Sounds good, aside from the menu quirks. I may double-dip on this one unless Funimation's version turns out to be definitive in some way. I wonder which audio track the Madman release has, since it only seems to have one, Dolby or DTS.

I believe the HK blu-ray's subtitles were close or identical to the ones for the international theatrical release, so it would be interesting to see if the Australian ones differ much. The HK one had some surprisingly quirky translations, especially one line near the end:

Yeah that's in the Madman subs too! Took me by surprise and I just assumed it was a little bit of Australian creeping into the dialogue for a moment. I half expected the next line to be "Struth! 'E's gettin' back up!" That didn't really strike me as something your average Japanese person might say, but at least there was nothing along the lines of trying to make Godzilla 'disappear up his own butt hole' or anything like that!

Oh, and I just went and checked the back of the case (it only just occurred to me to just do that instead ) and the sound is listed as DTS-HD Master Audio 3.1, so I guess that's what it is!

That's good. I've watched the movie with both audio tracks, and the DTS version is definitely superior. It has more bass and weight without resorting to the kind of annoyingly broad dynamic range that Hollywood movies use these days (I'm looking at you, Interstellar). Dolby tracks are better for late night viewing though, since they're compatible with dynamic compression, and tend to not have overpowering bass.

Kailem, sounds like they followed in the tradition of the ADV Destroy All Monsters DVD release... boots straight to the movie!

Got a notification that Shin Godzilla was delivered to my mailbox today... one day before release! Best Buy has been doing that lately, got Logan and Kong: Skull Island a day early as well. Don't expect to get around to watching it today, but still nice to be able to gloat about having it early I suppose.
