The Tristar cut of G2K is better. Even Toho and Tokao Okawara prefer the American version.

Dr. Kain and klen7, what's the screen size of your tvs? I have a 60".

I can possibly see this not being visible or as noticeable on a smaller screen.

This isn't the worst example either. The number of lines varies, but they all show up in the same spots in that vertical strip, and what makes it worse is that they pop in, pop out and wiggle while they're there. Its really distracting in any scene where the sky is the backdrop in that area of the tv. These occur throughout the scenes starting at around minute 22(which isn't really noticeable because there's always color in that area of the tv), becoming very visible at 25:20 where the sky is usually in that area of the tv and finally going away at 37:30(which is immediately after the UFO and Godzilla beam blast each other).

So I finally watched the Megaguirus BD and then GMK. GMK is the exact same transfer as Toho's BD, which was nice as I have seen some people complaining about it. Not sure why the only changed some of the subs, but whatever. The subs on Megaguirus were awful though. They couldn't even spell the main character's name right, which is just flat out horrible. The transfer looked like the Toho one as well. Nevertheless, this movie still blows even subtitled (this was my first time seeing it subbed since 2002).

There were a couple short moments that i thought i saw it to a lesser extent in the Japanese version, but the quality makes it a lot harder to tell.

Toho liked the American cut so much that it basically replaced their International version.

I still wished we got an International Dub for the BD, but I'm okay with this. It'd have been nice to hear Rik Thomas.

The GMK transfer looks like piss for a Blu-ray...

The first ROM movie is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of how good it looks. There were times where I was impressed, and others where a shot looked spliced in from a bootleg or something. Overall though, I can't complain too much about the ROM discs due to the mediocre treatment they received the first time out. At least this time there are language options and you get all three.

I'll have to check out the G2K and GxMG discs (and other two Mothra discs) as I get the time.

I guess I'm just so used to the transfer for GMK that I see nothing wrong with it. It is the same as my Toho BD and that is perfectly fine with me.

I just got these today. GMK was the one I was looking forward to the most b/c I always thought the DVD was really crappy. But geez! This is one of the worst looking blurays I own! It's unbearably soft. I haven't watched the whole movie, just spot checked it because I was concerned after seeing the complaints here. It's so freaking soft in some shots it looks like it's completely out of focus. It literally made my eyes hurt because it felt like My eyes were bleary and I was trying to focus through it to no avail. I seriously have to wonder if this is actually even an honest HD transfer or just a cheap SD upscale slapped onto a bluray. It really feels like it could be the latter.

Very disappointed. So much so that I'm inclined to write sony and see if I can get a response. At least maybe find out what the source was...
