The HB series doesn't stink, it's actually quite fun and full of nostalgia for those of us products of the 70's! For myself, it was my first major taste of anything Godzilla related, and lead into my love for the film series. I remember when my neighbor friend and I were watching one of the films for the first time, we kept waiting for Godzilla to fire red beams from his eyes.
Looking forward to the 1998 TV series, I've been wanting to see (OWN) all of them for a long time.

I guess it begs the question:
What's more important....looking like Godzilla or sounding like Godzilla?
If your answer is "Lazer eye beams" then the HB series is for you.

The HB Godzilla doesn't really look like Godzilla either
Anyway, I watched a couple episodes of this on Netflix recently and I still found it quite fun.

If the asshats at Classic Media hadn't been so Godzilladamn greedy, spacing the H-B series' 26 episodes out over what would have been 6 friggin' volumes(!) then they might not have done so poorly! *SIGH* They should have offered the complete series in a compact boxed set for $30 or less. They almost certainly would have sold better as a complete set. Instead, they threw fans under the proverbial bus by SLOWLY releasing a paltry handful of shows at a time, at an overly inflated price. The show is too crude and old school to attract that many new viewers, and fans like myself just kept on waiting and waiting (and WAITING) for the other half of the series or else a box set that, sadly, simply never materialized. Feh! A pox on the boneheads at Classic Media! A pox I say!!!
While I despise GINO in every way, I understand that the cartoon was more in the spirit of the Toho version. I dunno, I never saw a single episode. Even so, once this has been out for a while, I'll probably pick it up used & cheap on Amazon.
Oops! Fixed.

It was Classic Media rather than Sony who had licensed the Hanna-Barbera Godzilla series.

Regarding the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Classic Media is a "family entertainment" company whose general focus is on inexpensive releases that parents will buy for their kids, rather than the hardcore fan/collector market. I have the press info for GODZILLA cartoon DVD Vol 3, and it lists 5 episodes of the show for a SRP of $7.93... which is hardly an outrageous price. And I would bet Classic Media's marketing research showed that price range made the DVDs and easier sell with the average mom and dad.
While I would have liked a complete series set, I'm not sure that sales would have justified it. Back in 2006-7, Steve Ryfle and I represented Classic Media at conventions and film festivals. We would do contests with Classic Media DVDs as prizes, and Godzilla fans did not want the cartoon DVDs. Steve and I would laugh because the reactions from fans was the same, over and over. And if these fans didn't want free DVDs I doubt they were going to spend $25-30 on box set of them.

I found the HB Godzilla to be a dumb series as a kid and have no desire to revisit it again, even for nostalgia.
I found the newer cartoon to be step up, even from the movie that gave birth to it.

I think the difference is that Mill Creek licensed Godzilla - The Series from Sony, which was probably less expensive than Classic Media licensing the Hanna-Barbera G from Toho.

Got mine from Amazon today. Anybody else?
I'm glad to have this. It really is quite a good show for what it is. I think the show holds up really well honestly.

Have this on my Amazon WishList. Have you watched any of the episodes yet, Kyle? Wondering how the overall quality is. Do we know if all the episodes are complete or if some/all may have been possibly trimmed? Guess I cannot complain either way. I see where Amazon has it for a measly $5.55 (thru DeepDiscountDVD) so you can't go wrong for th at price! Looks like I'll be buying a copy for my library when I get home from work tonight.

The episodes are complete, with full beginning and end credits and the picture quality is just fine.
And the show holds up extremely well, which was a nice surprise since I'm MUCH older than when it first aired.
I highly recommend this set, especially at the price its going for, which is a total steal.

Got this a few days ago and have watched the first 5 so far with my son
Really good cartoon... And the only thing good that came from that 98 film. I honestly don't mind calling this incarnation of the character, Godzilla.

This show is holding up pretty well on a re-watch, actually. Not GREAT, but decent.
If you liked this show the first time around, definitely pick this up. For the price, you can't beat the trip down memory lane, and though baby GINO does get his butt kicked around, this show single-handedly makes the monster and design tolerable, even good. Still not GODZILLA, but a fine monster in his own right.
The PQ is acceptable for something like this and really my only complain is the packaging, with the four discs stacked on on top of the other.
Some cool monster designs, a fun adventure series, this is WELL-WORTH the ten bucks, and it's nice to have it be the COMPLETE series. Mill Creek his becoming one of the better companies out there.

Man, as I watch more and more of these, I still like it, but I'm totally getting ideas for a drinking game:
-Any time Nick says, "Go! Go! Go!"
-Any time people are surprised that Godzilla is still alive after an earlier defeat
-Any time Monique wants to kill Godzilla
-Any time Randy hits on Monique
-Any time Nick shouts some command that doesn't need to be said, like "Get down!" or "Watch out!" when something is flying at people's heads.
-Any time Nigel gets destroyed.
-Any time Godzilla uses his breath
^These would be for a beer-based game of course...if you were taking shots, some of these happen EVERY SINGLE EPISODE and you'd get TORE UP.
