That's a shame that Criterion was only ever interested in the first movie, but I do kinda get Criterion's thinking. Although out of all the other Godzilla movies, I think that King Kong vs. Godzilla would be the best candidate for a Criterion release.

Is this image that has been floating around the internet a fake or did they at one point consider releasing more?

To me (not knowing a TON about all this stuff) the films that would SEEM to have the biggest potential for a Criterion release would be 1985 and KKvG.
KKvG because US fans have never seen the Japanese version and also because of name cache.
1985 because it's never gotten a stateside release aside from VHS. They'd literally have 100% of the market on that one. Even with my feelings on Criterion, I'd buy this one day one.
I know there's rights and licensing issues and yadda yadda yadda. But aside from that, I don't think a Criterion release would sell to ANYBODY other than hardcore fans.

Curtis Tsui, producer of Criterion's GODZILLA, is a big fan of the early Honda/Tsuburaya films. RODAN and THE MYSTERIANS were two films he said he'd love to work on for Criterion, but he doesn't handle acquisitions and his bosses were only interested in getting the first GODZILLA.

I would be all over a Criterion Rodan release. Maybe G14 will get the gears turning

Rodan and Mysterians would make perfect sense to me, one being Toho's first color monster film and the other their first color/widescreen alien invasion flick.

anyone who knows movie effects history knows why Criterion released EQUINOX. no, it's not even close to a great movie, but the impact on modern movies is undeniable.

So somebody at a different message board pointed me to this link:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/35240419Says May 1 for Destroy All Monsters.
However nothing pops up on Amazon except the older releases (including the ADV one).
Thought somebody had mentioned a July re-release for those?
Just trying to verify or confirm which date is right.

It's just the reissued Media Blasters DVD. A few Wal-marts have the disc in stock the one I work at does not.

I saw this at a Walmart:
The back cover says that
King Ghidorah and
Mothra are 1.33:1 fullscreen and English audio only while
GMK is 2.35:1 widescreen and dual-language, so these are just the older DVDs repackaged. I think Sony's marketing department wants shoppers to think that these are a trilogy.

At least that bundle kind of makes sense (Mothra movie, Ghidorah movie, Mothra and Ghidorah movie)
