Awesome, I've decided to sell off those Universal Classic Sci-fi releases and just get the individual BD releases at a later date. Besides the only movies I care about from those sets are this, The Mole People, The Deadly Mantis and Tarantula. The others on the set(s) I don't really care to see.

Shout announced today that they'll be doing the Alligator People on BD later this year.

Man this year has been shaping up to be a good year for genre fans between Shout and Kino. Hopefully that's a sign that Criterion will do their Godzilla releases this year.

I'll get you alligator man!

(Never seen the movie: the trailer in Fantastic Dinosaurs of the Movies made it iconic to my childhood!)

Shout does it again with an announcement of Night of the Creeps. They have a deluxe version coming out with a NECA figure of Tom Atkins' character from the movie.

Anyone heard or read anything anywhere about possible blu-ray releases of MATANGO or THE MYSTERIANS??? I re-watched them again this weekend and the DVDs may have looked pretty impressive back in the day compared to my shatty old off-air VHS recordings, but boy do they look like dookey now! :( Someone needs to step up to the plate and offer these in hi-def... that is, if Toho has actually affected quality restorations for them.

me I hope that one day you guys can get movies like Alligator (1980) or prophecy the monster movie(1979) those would be great on blu ray.

Both are on Blu-Ray in Japan. (Other non-Godzilla movies on Blu-Ray in Japan are Rodan, Mothra, Atragon and both Frankenstein movies.) The Mysterians looks OK but it's one of the first Toho HD transfers and doesn't stand up so well to their most recent work. Matango is one of those recent transfers and it's really stunning. Toho also has HD scans of most of their other non-Godzilla movies available on Amazon Prime in Japan; I haven't seen all of them yet but the one that impresses me most is Space Amoeba. I hope those will make their way to Blu-Ray either in Japan or preferably in the States before long.

I really dig how Shout Factory is including the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes as special features on these nice Blu-ray editions of movies they riffed.

The remaining Universal-International horrors awaiting Blu-Ray release are:

The Black Castle (1952 - Kino releases the similar "The Strange Door" in April.)
Cult of the Cobra
Curse of the Undead
Curucu, Beast of the Amazon (Unlikely, never seen official video release and not well liked. Svengoolie has shown it using a foreign video master so Universal might not even have its own scan from domestic elements.)
The Incredible Shrinking Man (Easily the most likely of these.)
The Leech Woman
The Thing That Couldn't Die

Not bad!

The list gets a bit longer if you extend it to films U-I released but didn't produce but I'm not going to go there because I think Universal has released or licensed all of those that they still hold (Hammers, King Kong vs. Godzilla, etc.) except for "The Shadow of the Cat" (1961).

"Dinosaurus!" is the one that comes to mind for me. Heck, if we are talking Universal, It would be nice if they released their Buster Crabbe "Flash Gordon" serials on bd.

Do you have the dvd of Dinosaurus! that came out several years ago? It was a really excellent transfer from original film elements and the results were spectacular. I can only imagine what a fully restored blu-ray would look like. It's a super fun movie and absolutely deserves a hi-def treatment.

Indeed, I do have the "Dinosaurus!" DVD, which I agree is great looking (it was the first time I had seen the film in a widescreen format). Still, spoiled me wants a blu-ray! Going back in the day, "Dinosaurus!" was actually one of the first VHS's I ever bought around 30 years ago from the now extinct Sam Goody (very much miss stores like that, Suncoast Video, FYI and of course Tower Records).

I'd like to see Dinosaurus! too but I think Universal's involvement with the film ended a long time ago. (I think the rights are with Jack Harris' estate.) I had a GoodTimes VHS as a kid and I didn't really think much of the movie until I saw the Image DVD. The photography and even just the tropical scenery elevate the movie and that old cruddy VHS did a bad job showing that off.

Shout Factory has renamed their Karloff / Lugosi set as "Universal Horror Collection Volume 1."

That sounds very promising for the future!

With all of the talk on "The Joker" this past week, I'm actually more excited about seeing the very movie that inspired the Joker character - "The Man Who Laughs" with the great Conrad Veidt, which is coming out on blu-ray June 4th, 2019, via Flicker Alley.

Cool!

Dead of Night (also from Kino) has also been scheduled for release only a few months from now. It's definitely one of the most underrated classic horror films; the birth of the anthology horror and killer doll genres!

I've decided to go on an upgrading spree on my home movies so I'm getting rid of a bunch of DVDs to upgrade to BD and a bunch of BDs to upgrade to 4K, my sister is having a garage sale this weekend so I'm going to be selling them there and with some of the money I make I'm going to pick up Kino's One Million Years BC as well as Jack the Giant Slayer.

If you can't sell all the DVDs, there are sites like DeClutter.com https://www.decluttr.com/, where you can sell them off, though you may not get the biggest fortune.

I am actually going the opposite direction. My father just unearthed my grandfather's old 16mm projector and since my father has the very same machine, he gave it to me and it is still in good condition! All that is needed is a lamp/ blub, which I just ordered on Ebay. I can't believe I get to watch some of my 16mm Godzilla films again! Heck, I will probably go on Ebay and see if I could find more 16mm Toho or giant monster features!
