Cohen released a trailer for their (fantastic looking) Old Dark House restoration:

GREEN SLIME's already out on Blu thru Warner Archives and it's actually a pretty good one, too. Only enticement for double-dipping would be a TON of bonus content.

^I believe you mean DVD. Yeah, it was an early title from their made-on-demand line of DVD-Rs. This is the first time it'll be on Blu (and, unlike the DVDs, Warner Archive Blu-Rays are pressed same as a retail release). I'm afraid bonus content is unlikely - the archive simply ports over whatever was on DVD, but they do do a generally terrific job in restoring their films and though I'm not super up with all the technical stuff they usually give better encodes on discs with more storage space then most retail releases!

I don't flippin believe it!

yay! :D

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Simpso ... nced/23486

Now while there is currently no news of a Blu-Ray release, I sincerely hope to hear about it soon, it would be kind of a bonehead move not to release this on Blu Ray. Honestly if what I've heard is true, if they already have the commentaries/Bonus Content for seasons 18-20 on the "Simpsons World" app...then hopefully 19, and a Proper Season 20 release are not far behind. Then I'd be actually willing to wait another 2 years, if they just finished with a season 21-30 giant box set, and be done with it.

I just wish A&E Home Video would get off the collective asses and get around to releasing the Season 2 Blu-ray remasters of SPACE: 1999. S:1 is a fantastic set, looking like it was literally shot yesterday. A ton of extras just sweetens the pot for fans and the curious... but we've been chomping at the bit for over two years and no news still on S:2's release. With Martin Landau's passing, I wonder if that will motivate anyone at A&E push for S:2?

Criterion may have the ultra-delux, Romero-approved Night of the Living Dead remaster in the pipeline (with some sort of limited theatrical release this Fall?), but that's not stopping Mill Creek from putting out their version first, since the movie is public domain.

Cool cover. Honestly, if the quality is decent enough I may go for it. I'm surprised, seeing as how it is public domain, that no ones done a Blu-Ray before.

Believe it or not, this was the first serial I had ever seen. My father had it on Super 8 MM (4 film reels, 3 chapters on each). In the early 70's I think it cost him like $400, THATS how much he liked it! I got it for him on VHS years later, I don't know if he ever got it on DVD or not...but its crazy to think how superior this was to Columbia's Superman, which came out 7 years later.

That's one of the things I found so disappointing about the two Kirk Alyn SUPERMAN serials. They should have easily topped Capt. Marvel, or at the very least equaled it. Instead, both were head-scratchingly sub-par in almost every aspect; in many ways looking not much better than the threadbare Commando Cody stuff coughed up near the end of the chapterfilm's heyday. While the Fleischer animation is gorgeous, it instantly pulls me out of the action every time it pops up. Had these been done before Captain Marvel then I might be able to give them a pass. Since they came after (damn near a decade!), there's just no way to justify their pedestrian look & feel. Kirk Alyn makes a slick Kent/Supes, but that's really about all.

Anyhow, I bought the '41 Captain Marvel serial on a 2-tape VHS set from a PD outfit called Foothill Video waaay back in the early '80s for around $50 ( a lot of money for a broke high school kid back then), then a PD-quality DVD set, and then a nicer DVD. I am really amped to see what these episodes look like on Blu! I am keeping my enthusiasm in-check though. While the high-res scan treatment they're receiving is encouraging, it really all comes down to the kind of condition the source materials Kino had to work with as to how terrific (or terrible) the hi-def transfer will look. I definitely have my fingers crossed. SHAZAM!

I remember Kraken saying that a lot of Toho genre films weren't even available for licensing on Blu-Ray because Toho hadn't done HD masters/Blu-Ray releases in Japan.

Well, seems Frankenstein Conquers the World and Matango are getting Japanese Blu-Ray releases later this year. Hopefully this increases likelihood of US releases.

Biggest Blu-Ray news recently is that not only in Samurai Jack Season 5 coming to Blu-Ray, but also they've remastered all four original seasons in HD for a gargantuan Blu-Ray set!

I'm sure this is also so that the series can comfortably exist in rotation on CN/adult swim. When adult swim was showing classic episodes before the new episodes they looked rather rough in SD form compared to the clear HD of everything else on the channel.

Oh, and other awesome news: British label Indicator is releasing the classic Night of the Demon on Blu, and their releases are known for being region free!

I wanted to post this in the DC Direct to Video thread...but having all kinds of glitches right now so I'll post it here...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075389ZBC/_e ... GRL2NGUKP0

$300.00 big boys! --$10 dollars per film, plus some pretty fancy packaging...I was hoping this might go down towards the holiday...but being a *limited edition* scares me...I don't have that kind of money, but I fear it may do fast...Oh well...I guess I cant have everything right...

Hopefully whatever bonuses there will be will be elaborated on more later as well

In terms of Halloween Blu-Ray releases it seems this year's a bit paltry. I'm only looking forward to The Old Dark House and (possibly if the reviews are decent) Night of the Living Dead. There's still some time for Warner to announce something neat from the Archive.

I had hoped we'd close out the Legacy Collections by October with Creature and Invisible Man, but no such luck.

One of my faves is finally getting a hi-def release!

It's just a shame it's thru Twilight Time, which means $30 a pop. Ouch! Oh well. Doubtful anyone else will ever bother. Certainly will be better than the awful PD copies I've suffered with in the past. The Fox limited DVD is quite nice, but I'm hoping the Blu-ray format will make things look even better.

I was just watching Shout Factory's Blu-ray of THE NEST (1987), and thought "Why the hell hasn't anyone released the CARNOSAUR films on Blu-ray yet?"

I'm surprised they haven't released them considering all the other Roger Corman stuff they've licensed.

^^are you looking at it on a tiny screen (like your phone)? When I zoomed way out, yeah I see what your saying. But at anything close to normal size and it's clearly his cigar. His forefinger curling over the top is plain as day.

BTW, Shout Select releases always have the original poster art as a reversible cover.
