Reviews are coming in for Uni's Marx Brothers set, and apparently it's a winner!

I'm saving it for Christmas, but I can't wait to see the brothers' first five films in something better than the VHS quality of the old DVDs!

If you're holding off until Christmas, I'd keep an eye out on sales & coupons from Barnes & Noble. The last 2 or 3 years B&N has run a 20% or 30% off coupon they advertise on the site (I believe it's a 30% off coupon but I'm only mostly certain). Amazon has offered a matching coupon at the same time they only apply it to books, whereas B&N has let you apply it to home video products, music, etc. And that's not accounting for the home video sales B&N runs at the end of the year.

The new Paramount-era MARX Bros. set is fantastic! The films look amazing (the main selling point, of course), and the bonus content is pretty sweet, too. If you like these guys then this purchase a no-brainer, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I know I was!

^Great to hear! It's especially rare for a major studio to whip up new special features for catalog titles there days, and coupled with the serious undertaking to restore those five films this must have been a major labor of love for some folks at Universal.

Now we'll just need the 7 Marx Bros. films under Warner. Personally, I think Night at the Opera and Day at the Races are Criterion worthy (and Criterion is doing more Warner titles these days), and the others are a nice fit for Warner Archive releases as they're far less essential (but I'd still get them).

^ Neat! Hopefully, when it happens (either a second 'Special Effects' set or Archive releases) the Scorpion disc will include the Obie/Harryhausen sequence from The Animal World in HD - so we don't have to wait for them to release that one to have a complete set of these guy's films!

Seeing The Curse of Frankenstein on TCM just sells the fact that WB was right to hold off on the Blu-Ray for that film because it needs more restoration work than their other Hammers.

Any word on any more universal monster legacy sets? Of the films I watched in the wolf man set I was very impressed with the quality.

Some of the Uni films have gotten international Blu-Ray releases... I think the Invisible Man and Mummy ones? That makes me lean towards those being the next two released, with Drac and the Gill Man being the last. Revenge of the Creature is 3D, so that adds another wrinkle to prepping the title for release,

Edit: but, they've already put that out on blu (in both 2 and 3-D)

^Uni just did a remastered 3D version of It Came From Outer Space, too. It's currently a Best Buy exclusive.

I'm hoping Planet of Dinosaurs gets a BD release soon. Next year would be ideal since it marks the 40th Anniversary for the film.

with news of YJ getting renewed, I'd like WB to get off their duff and release Batman TB&TB Season 3 on Blu-Ray. S1 & 2 look great, and its nice to have the episodes in order, but without a S3, I am stuck with repeat DVD sets because the DVD sets had a couple episodes out of order, and I cannot relinquish my S2 DVD set until S3 comes out on Blu-Ray. That will finish off pretty much every recent WB DC series on Blu Ray. Oh it would also nice to have The Zeta Project S2 and the entirety of Static Shock. I'd buy them on DVD if offered doesn't have to be Blu Ray.

^The delay on One Million Years B.C. was so they could get the best elements. I believe this restoration was done in... uh, England I think? I know there's a UK version that's beating this one to the punch by a few months.
