We recently upgraded our cable package at a cheaper price than what I was paying before and got the Starz network through my Xbox One I decided to download the Starz streaming app and watched a few minutes of Son of Godzilla sadly the print looked worse than the DVD and as a side note it was only available subbed which isn't a big deal considering we'd have gotten the international dub instead of the Walter-Reade dubbing.

I wouldn't take the materials they have now for what we're eventually gonna get on Criterion's physical releases. Before their Blu-Ray release of Godzillas '54 they had provided the older, Classic Media versions of '54 and KotM on HULU. This is just what they have now.

Oh no I'm not I'm just stating that for those looking for an upgraded print they're out of luck. I know what we'll get on disc will be a lot better.

You can find stills from the CM discs that look good. It’s the interlacing on those that sucks

Should Criterion actually release these films, one thing I REALLY hope is that they restore DCA's release of Rodan. While the Japanese version is nice, I actually prefer the dub. The addition of the sound effects when baby Rodan eats the Meganurons and the final speech as the 2 Rodans meet their fate make this the superior version, to me. And to see it look as good as the Japanese version would be most welcome, in my book.

My 3 year old was recently telling me Ghidrah was her favorite...so we watched that movie...and by the end she was saying Ghidrah was too mean and scary and she wanted Godzilla to beat him up.

So, mission accomplished, Honda, et al. Ghidrah is cool-lookin, but unlikable!

No confirmation about anything one way or another, but there is a new Godzilla releases article on Criertion's website. It's mainly about the author's childhood experience with the Super 8 release of Godzilla vs. The Thing, but spins outwards to cover other aspects of the franchise and uses August Ragone as an expert source:

The loss of FilmStruck (and the most popular Asian drama site, also closed by AT&T/Time Warner recently) shows just how ephemeral streaming is. It's especially bad in this case, as no other service catered to classic film fans and no other companies other than Criterion and WB could pull off such a service.

Streaming is a substitute for renting a movie or watching it on TV, not actually owning your favorite movies.

With Warner Brothers starting their own streaming service in 2019 (and Disney not too long after that), how many more studios will follow suit? All of a sudden, Netflex is becoming a little more bare and no way am I paying for multiple streams. Even this article from Collider makes the case for physical media.

^ It's weird, because I actually don't buy as much physical media as I used to. I feel like I have that obsessive gene where I want to get the complete set of things and it just ended with piles of things I never watched or read. Ironically, this has just given me renewed vigor for collecting: more deliberately self curating. I have to really love what I'm buying! I don't make impulse buys like I used to.

I don't pretend to know what's going to happen with physical media, cable, and all of these streaming sites but I just think we're reaching that Tipping Point, you know? Netflix is going to be pretty much all direct to Netflix material, Disney will have their own streaming service, Warner Brothers will have their own streaming service (will DC remain seperate?), and then you have Hulu and CBS and HBO and whatever the heck ever they're going to turn out. Amazon Prime is probably my favorite of the streaming services just because so much weird stuff pops up on there (and often vanishes just as quickly). Amazon Prime reminds me of the early days of cable, where they were just trying to throw as much stuff together as they could to fill up air time. In Amazon Prime's case, the stuff in question is usually Italian horror films and kung fu movies!

I don't think this growth will continue. I think there has to be a contraction.

Man, what the "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" is AT&T doing? Drama Fever and now Film Struck? Not to mention they are the reasons Tsuburaya and Funimation have pulled their support from Crunchyroll.
