Rumors are circling that Criterion is working on Dawn of the Dead.

Have you tried using the PS4 instead of the PS3?

I'm hoping that's something they fix with the 4K releases for older titles but based on the reviews I've seen for the first Avengers and Age of Ultron it doesn't appear so :\

It doesn't affect me yet as I don't have proper sound setup but when I get my own place next year or so that's something I want implement. Most likely a dolby atmos set up.

So what's wrong with Disney disc audio, aside from being too quiet (which kinda seems ironic... hasn't the complaint with the music industry long been the "loudness Wars" where everything was too loud which destroyed dynamic range)?

I’m not saying that being too quiet isn’t a legitimate complaint. It just sounded from the discussion that maybe there were other issues as well that hadn’t been elaborated on. Felt like I might’ve been missing something.

And I just think it’s funny that the general audio complaint has gone from “everything’s too loud!” to “everything’s too quiet!” In either case dynamic range is lost.

Well for Black Panther and Iron Man 1, I have little to no activity coming out of my subwoover and rear speakers. When Iron man gets thrown into the bus in the first movie, there's very little oomph to his impact. The explosions sound very quiet too as if someone turned the volume down to -38 on my receiver so you could barely hear them. In Black Panther, the gun fire during the casino scene was quite rich in the theaters. You could feel the bullets hitting all around. On the BD, I see bullets flying, I hear them flying, but I don't feel them flying. Same goes for when the rhinos are running during the last battle. Also, BP himself is speaking in whispers.

On most movies, I only have to turn my receiver up to -18 to get great audio. On BP, IM, and a couple of more recent movies, I've got to turn my receiver up tot -12. If it is something in stereo, I have to go to -8 or -10.

You wouldn't need a 4KTV there's a few BDs that have an Atmos track on them most notably Mad Max Fury Road well it was reissued with an Atmos track the first run BD doesn't have it. I'm pretty sure Black Panther has the Atmos track on the BD as well. So the only thing you'd need is a player and receiver to decode the Atmos track as well as the height speakers. But I can understand holding off on the player, TV and receiver. I'm set on the player and TV I just need a receiver with speakers and a place to put them, my tiny bedroom won't work.

As for the topic at hand I'll be picking up Batman vs Superman in 4K as well as the Deadpool 1 and 2 4K combo pack tomorrow. I was going to grab them tonight but forgot to grab them after work. Then in a month or two I'm going to pick up the Universal BD Legacy Collections for Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Invisible Man. Going to skip The Mummy one because I was never a fan of the old mummy movies I just couldn't get into them like I did with the other universal monster movies.

Their Muppet Movie release was bad. The Blu-ray.com review gives the audio like a 3/5 and says it's "fine" but notes some...technical stuff that I don't know the terminology of, I just know that it's literally difficult to hear the audio.

As for discs vs streaming vs other...I don't notice a difference in general...except when we get to my Disney discs.

When it's all quiet in the house (so...basically never) I can listen to my TV anywhere from 9-14 volume. When the kids are here, it's like 25-ish. When the kids wanna watch a Disney disc...it's max...and I have to turn the surround speakers on...and nobody can hear the dialogue.

I already have Frankenstein and The Wolf Man sets or else I'd get that box set.

Though I did enter the newest Sci-Fi Japan contest for that boxset.

One one more release to go and then they will have given us the entire story to Kouga (the original main character for those that don't know the series):

Last week I picked up Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049 and a Man of Steel on 4K UHD BD. Amazon had a sale going on where you could get 3 4K UHD BDs for $49.99 so I decided to pick those up.

So far I've only watched Blade Runner and it looks amazing in 4K/HDR.

I'm waiting for them to do a box set for the two Blade Runner films before I pick the 4K version up (well, 4K of the original and 2049 in general).

I haven't been to Best Buy in probably 2 years, so I thought, what the heck. They had the new Death of Superman DC Animated film for $15, and both Gotham by Gaslight & Suicide Squad- Hell to Pay for $10 each. I had not intended on getting those last two , but $10 was a pretty good price for new BRD/DVD/Digital combos. Also got X-Men DOFP- Rogue Cut, a impulse find at Walmart's $7.88 bin. Surprisingly, even though the digital copy expired 3 months ago, the code still worked, so that was a nice little bonus.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.
