Thunderbolt is awesome. I have the Japanese release. Haven't seen IGLOO yet, but I have been told it is awful.

At long last, an official, subbed release:

I got Shin Godzilla for $3!

A friend had it and HATED it and was gonna just throw it out and I said, "Nah bruv, send it to me, I'll pay for the shipping." And now I own the movie for about what it's worth to me!

Who the "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" throws out a BD they paid for? Shin Godzilla might not be for everyone, but it is not worthy of being treated like Battlefield Earth.

well, I cant say I actually *paid* for it, but as a bonus, I received a DVD copy of The Matrix with some other foreign DVD's I got a while back. It was in a paper folder with no case or packaging, so i simply threw it away because that movie holds no interest for me, and I was not informed of this "bonus" when I ordered the other DVD's initially.

Battlefield Earth is better.

Who are you and what have you done to the jellydonut we knew and loved who actually had taste in movies?

It's like I've somehow slipped into a mirror universe. Where I actually agree with Kain's taste in film more than j.d.'s? Up is down. Left is right. I don't know who I am or what is going on anymore! This is madness I tell you! Madness!

Shin Godzilla is bad and it should feel bad.

Shin Godzilla might not be the best Godzilla movie ever, but that doesn't make it bad. It's still a well made movie even if what you want was a standard formulaic traditional Kaiju film.

I think the Japanese Oscars override that as being a fact. The cinematography was simply outstanding.

By all accounts, the Japanese Oscars are even less prestigious than those of the American Academy, and they typically just give the awards to the highest grossing films.

Imagine a world where Michael Bay movies were routinely given Oscars.

Frankly, I fail to see how it makes a difference be it some garbage Bay movie or crap like La La Land and Birdman.

If your definition of crap includes La La Land and Birdman then it's no wonder you think highly of Sh*t Godzilla.

I bought The Night Gallery The Complete series the other night. Going to start it on Sunday.

Instead of doing movies every day this month I'm going to do TV shows. I plan on going through The Night Gallery and Tales from the Darkside. If I have any spare room I might get Kolchak the Nightstalker as well.

La La Land was as generic and cookie cutter as you could get. It didn't help that the songs and dance choreography were mediocre and Stone can't sing for crap. Musicals tend to suck normally, but this was an exceptional type of suckage since there were several movies vastly superior to it that deserved to win. Of the nominated ones, Hell or High Water should have won.

Birdman was great for its cinematic aspect as I loved how the scenes were seemelessly edited as if the whole movie was show in one take, but the characters were unlikable douchebags and the plot was so damn boring. For 2015, Grand Budapest Hotel was easily the best movie (and they gyped Hateful Eight). Such a phenomenal movie that seems to have already been forgotten by the masses because it didn't win a paid for award.

I've been noticing this but one of the ways I've seen some people disparage Shin is by saying Japanese audiences/critics have poor taste and it comes across as very disrespectful to me. It's obvious the film, as a domestic release, resonated soundly with people over there and trying to knock that because you didn't like tadpole Godzilla or whatever is unfortunate.

^ I agree. I get some people didn't like it (some of them spent months complaining about it before it was released) but dismissing the critical and financial success this film found seems especially petty.

It seems a bit rich to decry Shin Godzilla's quality when the baseline of quality for the '90s and '00s films tend to hover just above mediocrity.

... not that I enjoy dragging on these movies. The location footage in Spacegodzilla is pretty!

I'm only relaying what I've heard about the Japanese Oscars from people ACTUALLY IN JAPAN.

I can't disparage the critical or financial success of the film except to say that I disagree that it's anything above mediocre, and kick off the arguments we've had since its release for MONTHS already. And despite what anyone might want to believe, I went in with a VERY open mind, and up until Godzilla takes a nap I found a fair bit more to enjoy than not. Then the second half of the movie happened.

I still haven't watched my nearly-free blu ray.
