I wanted to "expand my horizons" with Toho, so to speak, and I'm exceptionally glad I've done so. I currently have seven Kurosawa titles. I've got my eye on Ran, but it's too expensive for me right now. I have no job, and the only reason I bought the two I did yesterday is because I got paid for odd-jobs. I' interested in Stray-Dog, and also The Bad Sleep Well.I've been interested in the then modern-day dramas like that. I wasn't overly impressed with Drunken Angel, but it's foolish to base one's taste off of one film, so I'll be on the lookout for deals on those. Of course, I really enjoy the period-dramas. I think I might pick up Kagemusha next. Anyway, I think this is pretty much my new hobby. I'll always be a fan of the Japanese science-fiction genre; that will never change. But in the last few years I feel I've come to appreciate films, especially these films, on a more complex level, I guess would be the best way to put it, than I have in the past. Not so much that I can't turn off the world around me and enjoy them, but I've opened up a whole new door to myself in watching these films. The thing that amazes me is that these are some of the greatest films ever produced, but you don't hear about them outside of this community very much. It makes me feel good to have people ask me "what did you watch the other day?" only to answer "[insert Japanese title here]" and see the reaction. I get these "you're nuts" looks sometimes, but I know that I'm experiencing culture at its finest.

I need to get me some John Carpenter films on blu-ray...The Thing, The Fog, Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from NY...i think those are the only films of his available on blu-ray that I want...
I'm actually holding off on The Thing in the hopes that when the new one comes out, the old one might go on sale!
I bought this:
because I had an old gift card and it ended up costing $0.25

Good selection of Carpenter films...didn't know they had The Fog on blu ray, gonna have to get that and Escape from N.Y eventually....
Not gonna bother with Halloween...the only time of year I'll watch it, it's on TV anyways...
Edit* The only other Carpenter film I NEED on blu ray is They Live...someone make that happen please
Still, I'm happy I have Big Trouble and The Thing on blu ray as those are probably my two favorite films of his

I picked up Kagemusha yesterday. I was interested to find that it was a two-disc set. The first disc, of course is the feature, with commentary and all the usuals. The second disc has an interview with Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas, who were executive producers for the film. Plus, it has documentaries and an image gallery and the like. Definitely worth a look.

^I've been toying around with the idea of buying Kwaidan, but I haven't really thought hard about it. It just doesn't sound like my kind of thing. Is it any good?

Kwaidan is great. I saw it streaming online last year when a friend had to watch it for one of her classes. I wanted to pick up the Criterion DVD but according to it has about 20 minutes cut out of the film. I don't know if the version I watched was edited or uncut.
