The impression I got from Toho is that they believe they own the rights, but there's some legal confusion with old New World contracts that could possibly leave the door open for another company (or companies) to stake a claim. Since Toho says they own G85 they're not going to tell some other company to go ahead a release the film... and they won't accept such a claim from another company any more than they did from Anchor Bay.

But they also don't want to waste time and money on a potential lawsuit. So they're going to wait until that's no longer an issue.

Could we get this topic updated? All the showa Gamera films have now been released on DVD.

I updated the way the list is formatted. Instead of listing each movie individually, which duplicated contact information; the list now contains names of companies, the movies they own, and their contact information. I did not remove any information, I just reformatted and reorganized it. I also added contact information for MGM, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Criterion, Tokyo Broadcasting System, and Toho. I found the contact information for each company from their websites. I will reread this thread, and incorporate any details that have been posted into the first post. I feel like a lot of the movies in the "Unknown" section can be moved to their international rights owner section (which is Toho in most cases), but I wont do that until their status is confirmed.

I don't want to be pushy, but no one responded to the last post. Does anyone keep up with this thread

Now go contact some companies and tell them to give us some good home video releases

I'm probably just kicking at a dead horse here but I wonder how we're doing on the legal rights to Godzilla 1984/1985? I really do hope that Toho and some other North American distributor can salvage both of those film versions from New World Pictures old asset library to release on home video here sometime in the next few years. It sucks a lot to have to wait this long for 1984/1985 to come to North American blu ray and dvd. Virtually everything else has been released here in North America except for that one film. Shame.....
