Jackson's stuff is really an exception. I said the practice is now rare, not completely non existent. And even then, the Hobbit films are some of the biggest money makers of the past few years, while Godzilla was a much more modest success. Not only that but nobody behind this film has the kind of clout that people like Jackson or Ridley Scott have where they can more or less be the ones to make the decision to do an extended cut.
