I'm looking forward to getting The Philadelphia Story. I've had to watch my spending lately, but next time Criterion does a sale, it shall be mine.

For me at least, New Year's can end up to be one of the most draggiest days of the year. I don't particularly care for parades or bowl games. I did find out that lots of places were open on Jan. 1st, so I decided to check out my local Fry's (particularly for computer needs), but then, having plenty of time, I also decided to browse through their blu-ray/DVD inventory and lo and behold, "Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan", was staring right at me!

It has been said that perhaps this was not as good as "The Harryhausen Chronicles". I think both have much to offer. True, "Chronicles" has the great narration from Leonard Nimoy and we get to see Harryhausen and Ray Bradbury in better days, as opposed to "Titan" where both men were reaching their finale. However, I love the way "Titan" went through all of Ray's movies including, "One Million Years B.C.", which talk of it was practically absent in "Chronicles". Plus, in "Titan", we get to see some fascinating test footage (which I had never seen), and some featuring Ray's father, Fred Harryhausen.

The interviews were fine, though it was something we haven't seen before. Again, Ray ends up becoming the most interesting of the interviewees.

With this, i can now finally say that my Harryhausen blu-ray collection is complete (unless of course, WB decides to issue "The Animal World" on BD).

Image -I'm not really a fan of Scooby-Doo, but Batman TB&TB was a great series, and this film does not disappoint, I thought the actors might be a little stale getting back into character, but they were all on point. Aquaman steals the scene quite a few times, and Jeffrey Combs back as The Question (reprising from JLU as opposed to Nick Guest who voiced him in TB&TB) is amazing! If you are a fan of either of these franchises, or both, you will not be disappointed. With all the crossover films Warner is going with these properties, some of them can get quite bad (Willy Wonka and Tom and Jerry--really?) but here's to hoping we get more like THIS. I'd love to see a Space Ghost/Batman crossover film if they continue to bounce off ideas experimented on in TB&TB series.

^Gorgo doesn't look terrific, but considering the only extant materials are in poor shape they did a pretty great job (the Blu-Ray has a before and after restoration featurette).

It's been a while since I watched it, but I remember being quite happy with how nice Gorgo looks on BD. I remember it being grainy, but not obnoxiously so. It looked like watching an actual release print in a theater, as opposed to a top of the line transfer scanned from original negatives. But that's just fine by me. I love watching actual film prints!

I remember always wanting to see Gorgo as a kid because of the obvious similarities to Godzilla. I first saw it as a rental from Blockbuster when I was 13 (1989). I thought it was kind of boring...and to this day I still kind of do (even though I have the Blu-Ray as well). Watching it on MST3K sure does liven things though. I suggest you give that version a watch at some point.
