For those who missed Twilight Time's Blu-Ray double feature of Thunderbirds are Go/Thunderbird 6... well, their license expired and Kino has picked it up.

Twilight Time was thusly named because they thought it was the twilight of physical media, but it seems Blu-Ray has now been cemented as the format of choice for collectors (with streaming/downloads/redbox/impulse DVD buys for the average Joes). There are so many boutique labels out putting quality releases and the major studios seems all down for licensing their films, and I think Twilight Time's uber-niché place may be unsustainable. I think when the three year rights runs out most of their major (or major 'cult films') films will be scooped up by others. I could totally see Kino or Shout putting out those Harryhausen films, for example. I think something like a 'Sinbad Trilogy' release will be likely. Still, I've watched the hell out of those releases and certainly don't regret buying them. One thing I'll miss if Twilight Time does fade away: Julie Kirgo's liner notes/essay in the insert. I don't always agree with her, but her take is always really interesting. It's something to look forward to with every TT release,

The British Sinbad trilogy looks sick.

Mill Creek's licensed The Rockford Files for a complete series Blu-Ray set. If they do Columbo I'll go bananas. That's one of my biggest wants.

Been waiting for this one for a long time. Coming out on June 6th - http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Hell-in-the-Pacific-Blu-ray/174436/

My DVD does not look good on my LG T.V. screen (it looks shrinked). Blu-ray should fix that.

Yes, the ending does kinda of suck, but still an intriguing (anti-war) movie, with two of my favorites, Mifune & Marvin!

I'm getting into martial arts and other HK films and damn are they not well served by home video in this country: many unreleased, and many that are in poor quality and only available in poorly reedited dubbed versions.

Next month Twilight Time will release the two films that made Jackie Chan a star, Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, as a Blu-Ray double feature.

That's really cool. You could almost say it was....

....

*wait for it*

still hoping for alligator to go blu ray one day.
Cervantes smiled Spain's chivalry away;
A single laugh demolished the right arm
Of his own country; — seldom since that day
Has Spain had heroes.

where did all the happy endings go?, where could all the good times be.

TCM's showing Tarantula right now and it's in beautiful HD. Hope a Universal sci-fi Blu-Ray is in the making.

1925's The Lost World on Blu-Ray!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071LTF6TN\

Flicker Alley, Lobster Films, and Blackhawk Films® are thrilled to present the world-premiere Blu-ray edition of Arthur Conan Doyle s The Lost World, the most complete version of the film ever released. This visually stunning 2K restoration, accomplished by Lobster Films, features newly-discovered scenes and special effect sequences, incorporating almost all original elements from archives and collections around the world. Renowned silent film composer Robert Israel contributes a new and ambitious score, performed by a full orchestra in 2016.

Bonus Materials Include:
Deleted Scenes: Restored outtakes from a 1925 original nitrate transfer of The Lost World.
R.F.D., 10,000 B.C. (1917): Short film directed by Willis O Brien for producer Thomas Edison.
The Ghosts of Slumber Mountain (1918): Short film written and directed by Willis O'Brien in a new 2K restoration by the Dinosaur Museum.
Creation (1930): Unfinished film directed by Willis O Brien that nonetheless convinced Merian C. Cooper to hire O Brien for King Kong.
Booklet Essay: The Lost World: Secrets of the Restoration by Serge Bromberg of Lobster Films.

Wow!!! Not only the most complete version of TLW, but some of Willis O'Brien's prehistoric short films, which I only have in combination VHS bootleg, purchased some 20 years ago. The one short I did not see listed, was "The Dinosaur and the Missing Link". :(

That restoration of "The Ghost of Slumber Mountain" from The Dinosaur Museum also included the follow-up "Along the Moonbeam Trail" - http://dinosaur-museum.org/.

I've actually never watched The Lost World in its entirety. Seen clips of it all my life, if course. Really looking forward to it.

How crazy is it that Blackhawk is still a company? They were selling 16 mm copies of silent comedy shorts for home viewing in the '50s! Gotta be the longest running home video company.

Well, Flicker Alley posted a preview of the "The Lost World" blu-ray on Vimeo. Judging from that one scene, this print looks spectacular!

Films I REALLY want to see get a Blu-ray release:

KING KONG LIVES
ALLIGATOR (make it a double feature with ALLIGATOR 2 if possible!)
PROPHECY (1979)
ORCA
DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS (I know a restoration has been in the works for many years now... but c'mon!)
THE BLOB (1988) [since I missed out on the Twilight Time release]
THE RETURN OF SWAMP THING
ZOMBI 3

and, besides the many Toho films we'd all like to see in HD:
GAPPA THE TRIPHIBIAN MONSTER
BATTLE OF THE DRAGONS (a.k.a. THE MAGIC SERPENT)

Pretty much "Yes!" to all of these, plus I'd love to see complete restorations of Larry Buchanan's infamous 'Azelea 8' films... because we all need Mars Needs Women restored in hi-def! Right? Right!? Hello???

"Colossal" will be arriving on blu-ray August 1st, ironically, the same day as "Shin Godzilla". One can make it a double-header on that day!

I think MGM has HD masters of most of those (perhaps excluding ZONTAR and THE EYE CREATURES due to Susan Hart likely laying claim to them). I really want to see Buchanan's LOCH NESS HORROR, which I'll probably have to hunt down on VHS or some crummy copy on YouTube.

Well, it looks like the 1940 "One Million B.C." is getting its official 2K restoration DVD and blu-ray release, curiosity of VCI Entertainment (July 25th).

Yeah, those poor lizards whose footage would end up in countless other features throughout the proceeding years, including "Valley of the Dragons" which is essentially "One Million B.C." but remove Victor Mature, Carole Landis & Lon Chaney, Jr (and add a bit of footage of Rodan!).

Was always curious why Hal Roach never approached Willis O'Brien to do the effects. My own theory was that when Roach produced "March of the Wooden Soldiers", which did utilize stop-motion, he probably found it time consuming and costly, so it was to be lizards with back fins that would rule this world (and strangely, garner an Academy Award for special effects!).

KINO announces release date and specs for The Legend of Hillbilly John:

I know the movie is supposed to be kind of crappy, but as the only adaptation of one of my all-time favorite books (the collected 'John the Balladeer' short stories of Manly Wade Wellman) I'm thinking it's almost essential.
