Watched the first episode of Super today. Outside of Beerus for some reason being awake, it was quite good.

Doesn't he say at the end of Battle of Gods that he only wants to sleep for like 3 years or something? I dunno, maybe there are spoilers that answer that question...

Yes, but the first episode is 6 months after Boo was defeated. Beerus shouldn't wake up for another 5 years because he slept for 30.

Rumors are floating around that Toriyama's already retconned Battle of Gods and will simply re-tell it in Super.

Disappointing if true, but I'm still holding out for some sort of explanation... Gohan and Videl seem to be married already as well and that wasn't the case in the Son Goku and his Friends Return! Special with Vegeta's brother.

^ I could see that being true based on the first Ep of Super. It would be disappointing.

But they haven't. They were talking about their wedding in the first episode. Hell, that was the whole point of Goten's side story, to get Videl a present for her wedding.

I remember Mr. Satan and others conversing about how he bought them their house and everything, but I don't recall when they were talking about an upcoming wedding. I could be wrong. Where was this spoken of?

I could also see Goten and Trunks' journey as a sort of wedding gift if, for example, they had already tied the knot-- Given their naivety about pretty much everything.

In the first scene with Goten and Trunks together, Goten says, "My brother Gohan is getting married to Videl, right?"

Finally watched episode 2, but what is up with the laziness of all of these fansubbers? I've gone through 3 different groups now and none of them have bothered to translate the openings and endings, one didn't bother to translate the next episode previews, all three had lines of dialog missing, and one of them didn't even have Beerus' name properly (they called him Bills). Is there anyone that is even going to bother putting an effort into these subs or do they just not care since it will get licensed?

Anyway, the episode was great, but I really don't like them removing Battle of Gods from continuity. There was no reason for it. The stuff with Vegeta felt off though. He said he would never fight again at the end of the series because he knows he would never top Goku, but he is suddenly wanting to top him. That just doesn't make any sense. Loved everything with Beerus, but I do have to say, he feels a bit off from how he was in BoG. The worst aspect of the episode though was Kaio's new voice. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Well whatever. It was an enjoyable episode despite its shortcomings and I hope they continue to focus on developing the characters each episode before getting into the action. Each character/family deserves to have their own focus before then.

^Ah, so BOG was officially retconned, eh? It looked that way based on the little snippet we had of Beerus in Ep 1.

So, as I've been watching Dragon Ball Z Kai running on Toonami it struck me over the last few episodes that Krillin is an under-regarded genius.

The little used attack technique Krillin developed, kienzan - the energy discs, while training before Vegeta's and Nappa's arrival on Earth. The energy discs are incredibly ki energy efficient and yet lethal to opponents far more powerful than the user. Vegeta & Nappa outclass Krillin during their fight on Earth and Krillin would have killed Nappa if not for Vegeta's intervention. Later Krillin nearly takes out the far far more powerful Frieza and does manage to clip off part of Frieza's tail.
Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

And for some reason, nobody else ever thought to try to learn the technique from Krillin (despite nearly everyone learning Solar Flare)

Not entirely true. Freeza used it.

I had the feeling Freeza's technique was something rather different, and not something he did because he saw Krilling use it, just something in his immense arsenal of techniques.

So episodes 15-18 of Dragon Ball Super were actually really really good, especially 17. There are some many great moments from 17, but the best comes from Goku's Kool-Aid Man moment. However, there is a strange continuity error because Chichi mentions Bulma having another bingo game, but she never had a Bingo game in Super. WTF? That aside, this show seems to be great when it isn't just ripping off the recent movies.

First got into DBZ back when it started in '89, and watched a bunch of episodes when I used to tape trade, I couldn't stand the Funimation dubs later on, but now I'm streaming the entire series English subtitled on Funimations website. (currently on the False Namek episodes) I sometimes have to force myself to remember how great this series was. Vegeta is still as bad ass as ever.
