The new French/Japanese co-production looks gorgeous!

A 26 episode season is currently in production. No word on an American release.

Looks cool, almost looks like a sequel of sorts to the Imagi movie from a few years back.
I really haven't seen that much Astroboy, but I did see that movie in the theater, and really liked it.
Obviously it didn't do very well, but I thought it was very underrated.

I'm keeping an open mind because I have great affection for Astro Boy but I'm not crazy about the designs for his supporting cast.

I'm ashamed to admit the only Astro Boy story I've read/watched is Naoki Urasawa's Pluto - which was great, but man, I need to catch up.

No shame necessary, Pluto is an amazing series. That Urasawa was able to draw so much from the original material is a testament to Osamu Tezuka's work.

BTW just to update, I borrowed the 2004 version from the library recently, and I thought it was really good.
Hopefully we get more of that show on DVD at work (we had it for sale at about $7).

Yup, one of the last dvd's I bought a Fry's, my kids loved it. Too bad the original series is OOP and demands such a high price. I thought the 1980's series had made its way to DVD in North America as well...but apparently I was mistaken.

If you are talking about the 1963 Astro Boy, that's still in print and is available via Nozomi/Right Stuf.

The 1980's series was available on DVD in NA, but is long out of print. I recently watched the whole thing on YouTube. Highly recommended, but bear in mind the first two episodes of the dub edit out some major plot points, the full episodes with English subs are on there as well.
