Just finished the original series.

Speed Racer, like many, many, many anime has that problem where they ran out of budget and/or time in the final run of episodes. Just take episode 50, which valiantly ties up a lot of loose ends from the series and is sort of a sendoff of Racer X, but is also crazy rushed and feels like it's mostly stock footage (where you see how much better the animation was in the earlier episodes firsthand). Luckily, they do pull out all the stops in the final two-parter to produce the craziest, most over-the-top race (Formula-one cars! Boats! Planes! Submarines!) and give a chance for almost every member of the main cast to shine. Would have liked to have seen a victory kiss between Speed and Trixie like in the movie, but I suppose that kind of thing may have been off-limits in a boys adventure cartoon of the time.

I'm certainly down for a good one! A shame no one liked the movie, I thought it was a pitch-perfect adaptation of the original.

A new Speed Racer show would HAVE to be better than that awful, AWFUL movie. Right?

I'm certainly up for a new series. It's been quite a few years now since that great movie!

I realized after going back through the thread. It's become something of a cult classic in the last few years. I enjoy it a lot, and I've watched it with my kids dozens of times.

LION, QUANTUM LEAP, NASH BRIDGES & SPEED RACER, PLUS THE FIRST SCREAM FOR A WEEK OF 2017
Bill Hunt wrote:Here’s a title I’ve been looking forward to since it was revealed to be coming late last year: Amazon has just listed Funimation’s Speed Racer: The Complete Series for Blu-ray release on 5/30, and for the amazing price of just $29.98 (or $22.99 on Amazon)! The title hasn’t been officially announced yet, so these details could change, but still… very exciting. As some of you may know, 2017 is the classic Japanese anime’s 50th anniversary.

Also on the TV front today, Mill Creek Entertainment is releasing Quantum Leap: The Complete Series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on 2/7. SRP is $99.98, but Amazon is selling it for $59.99.

In addition, a company called Visual Entertainment has set Nash Bridges: The Fifth Season and Nash Bridges: The Sixth Season for Blu-ray release on 3/17, along with Nash Bridges: The Complete Series. The Third Season and The Fourth Season are due on 2/17. And The First Season and The Second Season street on Blu-ray on 1/20.

SPEED RACER UPDATE
Bill Hunt wrote:Speaking of Amazon.com, as we predicted their listing for Funimation’s Speed Racer: The Complete Series Blu-ray disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared. No worries though: Our guess is that Funimation will make their official announcement soon enough. In the meantime, it’s just nice to see some acknowledgement that the title is still coming. Funimation has been fairly quiet about it since they first announced that they’d acquired the U.S. release rights to the show from Tatsunoko Production at Otakon 2015. Just a quick reminder: Funimation plans to release not just the complete Speed Racer series on Blu-ray but also the original uncut Japanese version of the show, Mach GoGoGo, with English subtitles. We can’t wait!

NEW KINO/SCREAM TITLES, SPACE BETWEEN US, A MONSTER CALLS, SPEED RACER & OUR ARRIVAL 4K REVIEW
Bill Hunt wrote:And we’ve mentioned this before, but a number of online retailers are still showing FUNimation’s Speed Racer: The Complete Series for Blu-ray release on 5/30 (SRP $22.99). Presumably, the more elaborate version that includes Speed Racer packaged on Blu-ray with the original Japanese version, Mach Go Go Go, is still to be revealed. And keep in mind neither has been officially announced yet by FUNimation, though they did confirm last year that they’re coming in 2017.

It'll be interesting seeing how they approach the dual versions of the show for the release.

Promo for Funi's Blu-Ray release of the original Americanized set:

phpBB [media]

The original titles are back!

The new Speed site:

https://www.speedracergogogo.com/about/

Which interestingly lists three series, presumably the ones they'll release:

Speed Racer 1967: 52-episodes, English audio.
Mach GoGoGo 1967: 52-episodes, Japanese audio with subtitles.
Mach GoGoGo: Restart 1997: 34-episodes, Japanese audio with subtitles.

The picture is beautiful on that set. They're having a signing with Corrine Orr in NYC when that set comes out, very tempted to take the day off from work and go.

I might try to pick it up when the Japanese version comes out from Funimation.
While I enjoyed the American version, it still was pretty silly.
Though I must admit, that the Speed Racer live action movie was good, but it was missing the "fast talking" thing.

Hopefully they release a set that doesn't have the novelty head I'm definitely wanting all the content
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

It's like some weird flashback to the height of DVD when you'd have these insanely shaped box sets.

We just want nice looking box art and a package that takes up relatively little space!
