I love having a series I'm into for once not being an adaptation. No clue where things are going, and all the crazy theories that end up not being true, or like this episode, coming true in the most unexpected ways possible. Hopefully the show can keep it's energy through the whole run. I'm glad it's not only a thirteen episode series, just hope it doesn't lose it's way around the teens.

KILL LA KILL. YOU ARE A SHOW ABOUT CLOTHING. AND YET FOR THE PAST FOUR WEEKS YOU HAVE DELIVERED ONE OF THE MOST PUNISHING STRINGS OF EPISODES ANY SHOW HAS EVER PUT ME THROUGH. I KNOW FILLER EPISODES ARE GENERALLY REGARDED AS SACRILEGE IN SERIALIZED MEDIA BUT CAN YOU PLEASE JUST GIVE US A BREATHER FOR ONCE?

So the Kill la Kill soundtrack was released today, which was basically the best Christmas present ever - short of World Peace, of course. I've been listening to it all night now. SO GOOD. The only major negative I can really bring against it is that I don't think the "Mako Explains How It Be" theme popped up a single time. That's... that's just short of crushingly disappointing, made up only by the fact that the rest of the soundtrack is amazing.

This may be my favorite track:

BUUUUUUUT they're all so good that I can't really say that with any certainty. URF. There is also this one:

Aw yisssssss~~~<3 Man, that power ballad section in the middle. HNNNGG--

And lastly, there is this track, which I'm 95% certain is Mako's theme song and it is ADORABLE.

No new Kill la Kill this week. NO NEW KILL LA KILL NEXT WEEK EITHER.

MY WAY HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN LOST.

So I watched the first two episodes and... the fan service is definitely ruining the series for me. In Gurren Lagan they had humor with the fan service, but they weren't portraying what appears to be 14 year old girls in a hyper-sexualized manner.. For all the criticism it gets, i don't think even HSotD had characters this young... maybe its just the animation style and Mako is 18 or something weird, but she looks like a 13 year old in scenes where she is fully clothed...

The characters here and in High School of the Dead would all be around the same age given that both take place in high schools. >>

Seriously though. Watch episode 3.

We watched the first two episodes today and I'm good. It wasn't terrible, but it isn't for me. It was just random nonsense without very little plot or character development.

I think my three favorites so far have been episodes 7, 4, and 1. God, I love episode seven SO MUCH. Mako <3

Also, seriously, this show has some of the most gorgeous animation since The Woman Named Fujiko Mine. I LOVE the look of Kill la Kill SO MUCH.

I'm confident there's a plan here.

But damn. Two-thirds through the episode I thought it was pretty average and then BAM! Dat ending.

Eh, I'd agree with Klen except the fanservice is pretty fair with who it shows off. The guys get focus on their muscles and nipples and ass just as much. The criticism would be fair in another series, not so much here.

I feel like a hypocrite considering I was a little turned off by the sheer amount of fan-service in Ryuko's and Satsuki's costumes but still look forward to seeing the cosplays that are made in their wake.

I've been gradually going along. Finally got caught up. I don't quite feel as glued to my chair as I was with Gurren Lagann but it *is* beautiful and entertaining enough and Mako and Ryuko as characters are great. Hell, I actually like all the characters, especially the Elite Four, after having a set of episodes dedicated to each of them.

While I haven't been jumping out of my chair as much as Jared has, I think episodes 4 and 7 were the closest to getting me there. :)

Also, badass Mako. <3

That's not a really fair statement, since besides "Nudist Beach" nearly every other nekkid male in the show (i.e., everybody who is defeated by Ryuko) is high-school age, and since the legal age of consent in Japan is thirteen.

The characters defeated by Ryuko are not depicted in a sexualized manner
