100% agreed 8) . however I was pleasantly surprised this morning by the article on SFJ's front page:

Which lead me to Maiden Japan's main page:

It's so hard to keep up with all of Section 23 (formerly ADV) splinter groups. I had no idea of their existence, but I'll definitely be picking up Ideon and Xabungle as soon as they come out. They, like Discotek seem to be taking advantage of the "SD on Blu Ray" format, which saves space, and cost, which I'm ok with.

^ SD on Blu-ray is genius for these long anime shows. Fist of the North Star is like 3 discs with that format.

We got the Zillion show at work.

I have a couple Maiden Japan releases.
Of course Section 23 also has Kraken Releasing for the Godzilla movies.
Reminder that ADV had the first DVD release of Destroy All Monsters.

This got me excited for a moment...

https://www.millcreekent.com/astro-boy-complete.html,

but it appears just to be a repackaging of THIS:

https://www.millcreekent.com/astro-boy- ... eries.html

Not sure why someone would pay DOUBLE for the same content, especially when they are both alleviate (Also just FYI, i got mine at Fry's for like $5 over a year ago...)

I just compared the stats. I was hoping this would be the original B&W 60's Astroboy, or even the 80's version (either of which I do not have)....appears to be the early 2000's version again...

The Black & White version of Astro Boy is owned by Right Stuf (IIRC).
It was on sale during the Holiday sale they put on every year.

Not sure who has the '80s version.

I also got the 2004 Astro Boy at Fry's for like $5.
If that new set was perhaps a Blu-Ray with HD remastering, I might consider it.

Anyhow, might need a new topic for 2019 now.
One thing I am interested in is that a lot of the Funimation stuff is getting re-released under the "Essentials" line which means it's cheaper to buy.
One of those is the Blu-Ray of Scrapped Princess.

Also coming in March, we get Full Metal Panic Invisible Victory.
So far the only release shown for that is a rather expensive limited edition, hopefully there will be a normal release as well.

Yeah I did some research, the 60's Astro Boy show was released by Right Stuff (as you said)...wish I had known about the sale... , oh well, maybe next year. The 80's version was released by Manga Ent. on DVD. It is long OOP and kind of pricey, but the episodes are all on Amazon Prime right now, so I can watch them that way.

I too am disappointed Mill Creek is releasing the same 2003 series set again, but at double the price, no improvements whatsoever...

Well it might not be quite as cheap as it was during the sale. But paying $30 for each part (thin pack) of Astro Boy ('60s) is better than $50 (or $100 if you want the limited edition)...

yeah unfortunately the "Mini-Collections" (Vol 1&2), only have the first 52 episodes (1-25 & 26-52) (basically the same as the Ultimate Box #1),

To get all 104 episodes you'd have to get Ultimate Box 1&2 which is basically $200. I'm not going to give up and say it's impossible, because its certainly not, but I do have other priorities...but this will be on my radar for sure.

Just a FYI Right Stuf is doing a sale for their stuff, and those larger Astro Boy sets are only $60 each.
