Rebuild definitely streamlines things, but to me some aspects actually felt kinda rushed. Like Shinji' and Toji's relationship (as I mentioned before), and Shinji's inner-monologue therapy sessions, which I think somehow needed to be a long and painful as they are in the show. :\
Mouth's right, End isn't terribly hard to understand, if you're familiar with Eva, anyway. This time, I had a grasp of what was going on before going into it, compared to my previous viewings of the series and the Rebuild movies ('nother motivation to re-watch someday).
The first half was fast-paced, exciting, and entertaining, but also cruel and messed up. I looked like this at its conclusion:
The second half is largely more mindtrip fun a la the latter half of the series, only more so. And the ending?.... I knew partially what I would be presented with, at least visually. What I wasn't expecting was its quiet solemnity... its really disturbing abruptness...
Yeah, End of Eva... wow. It's an experience.
