Monster Zero x SciFi Japan - Archive Only

Funimation already rescued Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 on DVD a few years back. As far as I can tell, there's no Blu ray release in Japan so there'd be little chance of the show getting the BD treatment Stateside if there's no HD source to work from. There's no BD for Silent Mobius over there either. Maybe that one will get a SDBD release if anyone decides to pick it up again.

As for the others, I'm hoping Discotek might pick up Tekkaman sometime in the not too distant future, since they already released the sequel OVA a few years ago. I'd like to see RahXephon back in print as well, though I caved in and imported the Japanese BD set earlier this year, so I'm not chomping at the bit for that one anymore. (It's a pretty decent set - it has the dub and subtitles too)

OK I went through Magical Project S (Pretty Sammy TV) which is rather fun.
Kinda odd that despite coming out at the height of Tenchi popularity (back in 1996) it never got dubbed.
It also needs rescued as well.

I decided to continue watching Soul Eater NOT! via the TUBI streaming channel (free with ads).
It's only subtitled on that service, but was dubbed by Funimation on Blu-Ray/DVD.

Speaking of Blu-Ray I got a copy of The World is Still Beautiful at work for about $12.

Also the annual Right Stuf Holiday sale is happening now.
Though if you want Sentai stuff, their site is even cheaper (and they ship from the same place).

Well I did the random movie game last night, and watched 1 episode of The World is Still Beautiful and 1 episode of Sasami Magical Girls Club.

I ordered some items from the Sentai Black Friday sale (better prices than Right Stuf)

I made a few purchases in the Sentai Sale:

- Armored Trooper VOTOMS OVA Collection 1 (2 was not available unfortunately)
- The Skull Man Complete Collection (DVD only, seen it a couple three times over the last several years)
- Time Jam: Valerian and Laureline (I don't think I'd consider this an anime, but it seems like a fun show)

I'd hoped to pick up the Patlabor Ultimate Collection, Space Runaway Ideon, and the second VOTOMS OVA collection but they were out of stock before Sentai Filmwork's sale and they seem to be going out of stock elsewhere too. (RightStuf had a great deal on the Patlabor set and SRI but the sold out fast) It seems odd for these releases to be going OOS, maybe OOP, so soon.

I also put in a pre-order for Discotek's Giant Robo: The Complete Original OVA series (blu-ray), release date is Dec. 24. I might have waited, but I didn't want to miss out with Giant Robo going OOS too while waiting for a sale. The pre-order was $45 (I ordered through Amazon) so it's still a pretty good deal I think.

Currently watching the Ultraman anime on Netflix. Really enjoying it so far. It is a bit darker than the original series, but that's part of the reason I enjoy it.

I decided to stick with The World is Still Beautiful.
It's very nicely done, and even though it's sub-only it's not that hard to follow.
Must say the actress they got for Princess Nike has a very nice singing voice (she even sounds good singing in English).

My order was slightly delayed, but hopefully will be here today.

After finishing The World is Still Beautiful (which I liked), I ripped through Grimoire of Zero (very fun), Amagi Brilliant Park (it's OK), and now blasting though Needless (absurdly fun).

Finished Needless, it was really fun. The bonus of the Saint Lilly Boarding School was really fun.

Also watched UQ Holder, and much like Negima, I enjoyed it.
Though not gonna bother with the manga.

Did the random movie/anime night on Tuesday.

First up was part 1 of Macross Plus (I like the 4 episode version over the movie version).
Still holds up very well.

Then I picked Black Butler 2. Not sure if this happens in the manga or not (heard it doesn't).
However having two Earls go after each other with help from their demonic butlers is fun.

I bought The Big O during the Sentai sale, so I'm starting the second season now. I'd never seen it before, despite its reputation; it's been a cool show so far for sure, and it's looking pretty good on Blu-ray!

Finished Black Butler 2, it's still really good.

Just in case the yearly Right Stuf Holiday sale ends today.
The prices are kinda "eh" on some stuff, but if you want a TON of Gundam (and have about $1100) they have some bundles today.

Sentai Filmworks Holiday sale goes until Jan. 5, and they ship out of the same place.
The prices for their stuff are rather good.

Yeah they had those bundles during the end of summer. I got the last of the Gundam stuff I was missing. Only missing the Unicorn Movie since it hasn't officially been released yet.

Well, I finished the second season of The Big O last night, and... I think I see why fans were disappointed. The last few episodes of the show seem to trap themselves into more and more layers of questions without any solid answers, becoming so dense that the plot kind of gets tangled up and the REAL meat of the story - the characters themselves - almost get lost in the mess. I stand by saying that The Big O is a cool show - but it's evident by the end the creators didn't know exactly where to go with it.

I'm also rewatching Dragon Pilot: Hisone to Masotan and I just love this show. It's hilarious to me to think of Shinji Higuchi, famous for his big kaiju film contributions, doing this adorable and earnest little cartoon about women flying dragons in the air force. I really recommend it for those wanting something a little different and fun.

Watched the first 7 episodes to Gatchaman and they were good, but god damn is Ken the Eagle a brutal "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!". He has beaten the crap out of the villains and slapped a girl because she wouldn't fire a missile.

The ADV dub is weird. I've heard it is accurate to the Japanese version, but it seems like some of the actors are hamming it up at times. Nevertheless, the dub is really good outside of G5's in and out accent. The animation is really nice looking thanks to the outstanding remastering job the show went though. It is going to be a good time watching this series over the course of the year.

So far (up to episode 4) it's pretty good.

Getting near the end of GATE, had to switch to ConTV Streaming due to some sort of sound issue with Tubi.
The ads on ConTV are more annoying (seems like the same 2-3 ones every break).

Finished GATE.
It was pretty good.

Apparently there was a live-action mini-series for Moribito.
Tubi has the first episode, and it was pretty good.

Then I tried Girlish Number and really didn't feel like watching it (for now).

After that I went with Wonder Momo, and it was fun.

Finished Wonder Momo (it was only 5 episodes).
Then I started The Disastrous Life of Saiki K via Netflix, man is that a fun show!

After my son finishes a show he complains he is *bored*, despite the fact I have dozens of shows he has never seen (some i haven't even seen) . I understand not all my grab his interest, but for some reason he stumbled into Martian Successor Nadesico. Now to be sure, he's not quite 14, so there definitely is a lot of discussion before and after watching, since it has a ton of silliness, But some slightly mature themes as well. Gekigenger III is still the greatest Super Robot Show never made though....

Your son has impeccable taste. It's always nice to hear about someone discovering Nadesico, considering it's generally considered to be some obscure relic from the distant past nowadays. It was fairly well received when it first came out, (I wasn't even interested in the show back then, but I was certainly aware of it) but hardly anyone remembers it now, much less talk about it. That's usually the case with most older shows anyway.
You're right about Gekiganger - it was hearing about the OVA that convinced me to give Nadesico a chance. Do you have the ADV release or the Nozomi collection? If you've got the later one, your son can check out the OVA since it's included in that set. You might want to hold off on showing him the movie though.

I've a lot of stuff in the backlog I haven't seen yet, not to mention all the partially-completed shows I need to finish. Recent additions include Voltes V, Giant Robo and now SSSS Gridman has joined the pile. Right now I'm jumping from one thing to another - recently finished a rewatch of Bubblegum Crisis, I've also started the original series of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen and I'm watching it alongside the new series that's airing now. I'm also just about done with the first season of A Certain Magical Index as well.
