August Ragone voiced his doubts about the article and then (a few hours later) relayed Tsuburaya's denial... a denial that seems to have a bit of wriggle room to it: "This (rumor) is not an official annoucement." ?
https://mobile.twitter.com/RagoneAugust ... 6711399425The thing that strikes me about the idea of an Anno Ultraman is how terrifying an opponent he could conjure up for Ultraman.
---edit--- huh, we posted at the same time!
From the little snooping I've done it seems this is a rumor that's been circulating in Japan for a little while now.

Gotta say, though: this is exactly the kind of ambitious, high-profile project which would garner international attention that Tsuburaya needs to be doing!

More news about this with an actual cast.
https://taishu.jp/articles/-/67311?page=1If you remember TsuPro's original comments, they were non-denial. Also, at this point, what's' being reported seems too detailed to be false.

Why if I may ask? I like the work Taguchi is doing, but the property is really stagnant creatively right now.

Very excited.
Interested about the division of labor here: Higuchi directs, Anno writes and produces (I assume a very hands-on producer) and the movie is a Tsuburaya/Toho/Khara co-production.
Man, I can only imagine how scary the monsters/aliens are going to be!

I would prefer Higuchi not direct.

So we should expect lots of close ups on faces, black screens with text, lots of political talk, daddy issues, and a female character that is there merely for fanservice.

Given how they changed Godzilla's ray usage, would it be inappropriate to speculate on which parts of the anatomy Ultraman's Specium Ray will be coming out of?

So if this is a Studio Khara production, does that mean it will be animated instead of live-action?

Not big on Eva.
Not big on Shin G.
Not big on Ultra-stuff.
Not big on Anno.
Not big on Higuchi as a director.
PASS.

^Presumably nothing came of it, much like that Gamera concept trailer. I'm guessing Tsuburaya wasn't getting the traffic on that trailer like they wanted.
...So, my next question is: are we getting Shiro Sagisu back to score the film, too? I mean, I bet he'd do a great job scoring Ultraman; but between
Evangelion,
Shin Godzilla, and
SSSS GRIDMAN, I feel like he kind of already has.
