Jury Rules in Favor of Tsuburaya!

I could've swore I read somewhere that Tsuburaya has HD releases in Japan of the early series but they're only in Japan.

If we could get those with English subs, man that would be awesome. I'd love to see the original '66 version without the scan lines and artifacts.

Seriously Tsuburaya, don't worry about dubbing, just give us the Subs. Hell, give us the HD footage and we'll assemble our own subs! ..we're mostly there already.

i hit them on instagram (and their very dead looking tumblr) so thats about all the social media i can account for. I'll try to leave a computer on for the marathon (because who has time for that? thats why I need the dvds/blus!)

So with the recent disappointment that Ultraman could not be in Ready Player One because of the legal situation(Tsuburaya wanted him in but alas.....they won the final legal case right after the film wrapped production) can they at least get going on finding someone
to release the proper remastered original Ultraman blu-rays they have for the North American market?

I emailed Shout! Factory and didn't even get a response from them but now that this legal situation is done for good and Tsuburaya has rightfully regained world wide rights to Ultraman, I'd like to start seeing
some movement from them regarding the North American market. Yeah, it's easy for me to say that but there's a market for him here and would like to see some positive movement sooner rather than later.

Anyone with any inside info and anything at all for Tsuburaya's plans in North America? Cheers!

Huh, in the comments for August Ragone's tweet about his above ^^ article he answers a few questions and mentions that Tiga and Dyna are still technically licensed by 4kids and that's why we haven't gotten those two series yet, but also says the rights should be elapsing soon.

I haven't heard that before.

Anyway, Chaiyo is horrible and I'm glad bad things are happening to all of them.

I thought Funimation had the license for Tiga? 4Kids just dubbed it?

Anyway, I hope this means Shout! announces a BD release of Seven sometime soon and it will have real subtitles rather than those garbage things Chaiyo gave them.

Maybe 4kids had TV license, but Funimation had home media license? Anyway...I was surprised to finally see a subbed dvd set of Dyna from the same Malay company that released the Showa Ultra series. Normally I'd jump on that, but with this development, I'll wait. It would be nice if someone took the ball and ran with it, the same way Sunrise has really pumped out all the Gundam stuff since Bandai USA ceased operations. I'd love to get some official Ultraman stuff in quick succession. Also I watched some of the Ultraman series ok Toku when over at my in-laws house (they have cable, we don't). Has Tiga/Dyna/Gaia aired on Toku? I thought one or more of them did at one time?

Gaia has aired on Toku, Tiga and Dyna have not.

That's interesting about Tiga and Dyna, I had wondered as much but good to have confirmation. Didn't realize 4kids had rights to Dyna as well, but makes sense. Funimation may have been the home video distributor for some of 4kids titles? Their biggest lisence was Pokemon, and that was distributed by Viz.

Space Warrios 2000; Project Ultraman (was this show actually made and never aired?); the US DVD releases of Ultraman, Ultra Q, and Ultraseven in the '00s; Ultraman appearing in that Chinese animated movie last year; Sands always saying that they were gonna make a Hollywood Ultraman movie staring Will Smith; Ultraman not appearing in Spielberg's Ready Player One because of this... it's just been madness. Prolonged madness.

I can't decide what the strangest thing with all this was. The obviously fake document?

I’m still working my way through that Ultra Q dvd set. I really need to just hammer through the last couple of discs... I really do like the show. Not sure why I’ve taken so long to pick my way through it.

That being said, I’d gladly drop it and start the series over if we got a good blu ray release. I’m glad to have what I’ve got, but the Chaiyo era dvd is rife with quality issues from terrible interlacing to ghosting to poorly timed subtitles. It’s really shoddy work.

I’m not much of an Ultraman fan, but I’d gladly snap up proper tsuburaya Blu-rays of Ultra Q, the original Ultraman, and maybe even one or two of the other early era shows like Ultraseven or something. Come on Tsuburaya! I know you guys put out an awesome Blu-ray set of Ultra Q in Japan. I’m sure you’ve probably done the same for some of your other series. Get us some subs and (where available) dubs and port those suckers over to the US!

^Chaiyo did provide shoddy materials, but yeah: Shout's subtitles were also subpar. Their Gamera releases also had some wonky subs.

Good to hear that they've improved, though: apparently the subs are much more competent with their Super Sentai releases (from what I've been told). I think the packaging and release schedule model Shout's had for Sentai would be great for Ultraman!

Hopefully Sands takes the energy he's put into shopping Ultraman and brings us a solo Hanuman feature in a traditional tokusatsu style, wouldn't that be a delightful twist?

I've searched the internet for images of fugly Chaiyo-approved Ultraman merchandise, and in the end if Hanuman gets a beautifully produced figure? Madness.
