Monster Zero x SciFi Japan - Archive Only

Watching the first episode, I'm struck by how well it seems to handle the world-building for the story. There's a lot going on, but information is presented as needed, to maintain a good plot pace. I'm also struck by how young Riku is, or at least looks - he's a total kid! Nothing wrong with that, though; I look forward to seeing his character development.
Also, Pega is adorable. That is fact.

The scene where Zero takes control of the salaryman's body to beat up that gang reminded me of how, when Zero first appeared, he seemed like a huge rip-off of Momataros from Kamen Rider Den-O. There's a scene just like that in the first episode of Den-O. I guess after 10 years, why bother hiding it :/

I thought of Ankh from OOO, not Momotaros.

I am absolutely loving this show so far. The irksome logic gaps in Orb aren't anywhere near here, (Oh, the lead heroine learns he's Ultraman from the get-go? How novel!) Sakamoto is absolutely bringing the heat with the effects and the constant attention to the world building makes the transformation gimmicks less noticeable and more organic to the story. Additionally, this is also the first Ultra design I've fallen in love with since Nexus. I'm really digging the wild body "lines" and "mean" eyes to Geed--I feel like mean looking protagonists don't fly well in these shows, so it's nice to see a design with some teeth to it.

Episode 4 was godawful.

^Unfortunately, the interaction between the two female characters seems to be lifted wholesale from an anime made in the '80s... or '90s... or '00 - basically a bunch of stereotypes I've commonly seen in anime.

But, on the brighter side: Salaryman Zero is still cool!

Man, that Eleking is looking a bit rough. They should retire that suit.

Next episode: Godzilla! No, wait; Godzilla with a horn! No, still wrong. It's Earthtron!

Episode 4, not as good as the previous episodes, was pretty good. I hated how they CGI'd Eleking's tail instead of having an actual puppet tail. That makes it look kind of sad considering it was able to be done in the 60s. Moa is kind of an idiot, but I found the bit at the end to be hilarious. The Pit plot was resolved a little too easily though. Well whatever.

I enjoyed the whole Men in Black undercover insurance agency bit, and Moa forgeting the plant in the car was a nice save.

I really wanted that pastry she was eating, too.

And I didn't so much have a problem with Eleking's tail, aside from the long shot making it look like his giant, prehensile, electrical dong.

Wow! What a cliffhanger!

I'm an episode behind right now, but I thought episode 3 was fine. Laiha simply didn't have much to do, but the Burning Solid form was easily one of the coolest Ultra forms we've had... maybe ever. I also am liking the relationship between Zero and his host - in fact, I think it's interesting that Zero can coexist with his host now, rather than take full control like he did back in Revenge of Belial (referencing the original Ultraman, of course). Perhaps that's a sign of more experienced host-taking, or something?

Episode 4 seemed all over the place. I'm sorry to say I'm not liking Moa at all - she's too clumsy and silly without any true redeeming qualities yet; and I reeeaaally don't like the "rivalry" over Riku being set up between the leading ladies. Moa's boss is interesting, though, and I thought it was neat to have an alien with a little star.

The Solid Burning form is a great change of pace. Between the rocket punch, cooling vents, and the way he moves, he's basically a super robot. Salaryman Zero is also highly entertaining, and really should have been the main character. Moa feels like she belongs in a show from 30 years ago, though.

I will never stop being disappointed that Belial doesn't have pointy toes like Zarab disguised as Ultraman and various other evil Ultramen.

Acro Smasher is a pretty interesting form. The design is bland, but I like the graceful combat style; certainly more original than the typical high-speed type. Also, damn, only six episodes in and they've already introduced another toy for the kids to pester their parents about. Orb didn't throw a new plastic abomination into the mix until the second half of the series. At least this one isn't as facepalm-inducing as Orbcalibur's design.

Good episode tonight. (ep #9) It seemed to go by really quickly though.

A bit more backstory of Laiha which was cool. But I don't understand why she didn't 'take the shot' on the bridge.

I know she gave the explanation about hearing a voice but after six years of hatred and training leading up to that moment,..idk...seemed kind of odd.

Kind of bummed Moa the agent only had like 5 seconds seemingly of screen time. I like seeing her. She's silly but surprisingly competent. So far the episode where she left the plant in the car I guess is her best episode. It seems like they built her up a lot and had her busy in a bunch of episodes like a main character and then now the past couple/few episodes it's like they're barely using her character at all.

Despite wanting to wait till Friday to see the latest episode of Geed on CRoll, I ended up watching it on KissAsia. I really liked the episode but I think I'm slowly developing a crush on Moa so I'm biased since it was almost a Moa episode. I was worried they were going to write her character out or something. After Ultraman 80 and the complete disappearance of the school, the teachers and all those characters; I wonder when watching any other Ultra series if halfway through the series characters are just going to inexplicably disappear.
She's kind of ditzy and adorable at the same time in a really cute way, so I hope Moa keeps being on the show.

Totally agree that Laiha's sword looks really floppy and fake. And one scene where she was holding it in place against someones neck and it was sort of pointed at the camera, you could see that it was bent. Which sort of ruined any illusion of it being an actual sword.

...can you really just run around Japan with a sword and no one bats an eye? Hahahaha

Taguchi episode. Special effect quality is always higher. The shot of Geed's feet dancing as cars are flipping over in a cascade of smoke <33333

wow episode #11 was crazy.

I know the show doesn't show it,..but so many people must've died.
So many.
Wow.

Oh boy, another asexual hero that no one can relate to.

The two parter over episodes 14 and 15 was very good. We get to find out more about Zena, as well as well as how someone like Moa became an AIB agent. We had a properly tragic story involving the history of the Shadow seijin and a very powerful monster who actually felt like you need two Ultramen to defeat. As usual the effects were great and the fights were well done. And now it looks like we'll be getting the long awaited confrontation between "father" and "son".

I'm liking Geed so much. The story, characters and effects are really good.

(I got my wish and got more Moa. I think I have a full blown crush on her. )

I've seen other people play Zero but I think after Geed I'm always going to think of Salaryman as Zero. He's just perfect for the role in some indescribable way. He's a great actor. When he's Zero without the blue-red suit, or when Zero is on screen in the blue-red suit, it's easy for me to believe it's the same actor for some reason. Something about the mannerisms and cockiness of Zero (he reminds me of Bruce Lee sometimes),...Salaryman just nails it.

Oh yes, I'm also loving the "mild mannered Salaryman" aspect of Zero's current host. Now if they'd only give him a spit curl just one time when he takes off the glasses!

^The body language as the actor switches from his salaryman persona to Zero is incredible. He's the real highlight of the show.
