Garo is getting an American release!

Postby sentaison » Mon Oct 10, 2016 7:03 pm

From Anime News Network http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... es/.107469

Section 23's Kraken Releasing announced at the Monsterama convention in Atlanta this past weekend that it has licensed the original live-action tokusatsu series GARO and plans to release it in 2017. The company also plans to release other installments in the GARO franchise.

This is fantastic news, I've been wanting to see a legit release for Garo ever since I watched the first series. (Has it really been 10 years since then?) You can argue about the quality and style of the following series, but the original still stands out as an original creation with great action, story and characters. Man I cannot wait for next year! :D

Cool. After four Godzilla releases I've been hoping for Kraken to become a real Tokusatsu label for home video.

Cool. I'm not familiar with Garo, but a US release will motivate me to give it a shot

This is awesome. When I first got into tokusatsu in 2006, this was one of the shows that everyone suggested after Kamen Rider and Sentai. I've been following the franchise ever since and can't wait to own this on (hopefully) Bluray. Gonna put this on the list of things I never thought possible.

Actually its been 11 years since Garo came out as the first episode was in October of 2005.

Think of it as Devil May Cry meets Kamen Rider.

In fact, several of the seasons and movies are done by Keita Amemiya, who worked on Onimusha II, if you are familiar with that series.

I can't wait. I just hope they use the newly remastered HD versions and don't cut out episode 4.

Is there controversy surrounding episode 4? (e.g. Ultraseven episode 12)

Episode 4 is no longer allowed to be shown on Japanese TV because the actor who plays the Horror was arrested for drugs. It's down right stupid and I hope it does not affect the release here in the US.

Pretty stoked for this. Seems like a great time to become a Keita Amemiya fan.

Sounds cool. I was just contemplating sampling some fansubs for this series of inter-linked shows. Looks like Kraken's blus will make that thought moot.

We watched the first five episodes of Garo from the BD and the quality is exceptional. The audio really packs a bunch as my subwoover was constantly booming and the dialog is quite clear despite being only in stereo. The video quality is just as impressive and clean. Gone is the really blurry look, and yet, it still retains its atmosphere. My only complaints are with how generic the disc menu is (it's just the episode titles in front of some gears) and the English subtitles can not be turned off. Translations are spectacular and I haven't noticed any grammatical or spelling errors. In fact, it is pretty nice watching this series subbed again as I haven't watched it subbed since 2006 as I had always rewatched it through my Region 2 DVDs

As always, these episodes are a blast to watch with my favorite being the fifth episode (one that deals with a girl and two guys in a warehouse) because the Horror is so creepy. Although, my favorite design of the five Horrors so far is the chain lady one. So amazing looking. Too bad the second volume doesn't come out until Dec as it would have been nice to watch the whole series this month.

Did you get an early copy for review? Amazon is showing it being released next week. Good to know the video quality is good. Honestly this is probably my most wanted release this year.

Rightstuf has been shipping it for a few weeks now.

I wish I was given a review copy.

I never heard of Garo but after watching some of the fights on Youtube that looks really neat.

Thanks for the heads up. That Golden Armor is really cool looking.

It's like watching a show that merges Devil May Cry, Kamen Rider, and Onimusha together.

Yeah I read some of the premise about the horrors/demons and why the guy is wearing the gold armor. And I watched the fight with Zero on Youtube, it looks pretty neat. I put the bluray collection in my bookmarks.

I like Kamen Rider so this should be neat.

Japan really comes up with some of the coolest costumes.

I've really been enjoying the first volume, it's been great to watch a high quality version of the show. I guess the response to Kraken's release has been really good because they're following up in February by releasing the Kiba side story! https://www.rightstufanime.com/GARO-KIBA-Blu-ray :D

I have somehow managed to miss this one, hopefully we're seeing the beginning of releases of the whole series here! I would have been happy just seeing the original series here, but now I'm getting rather excited! Could Demon Beast of the Midnight Sun be next? :D

I've only watched the Kiba movie once, raw as I bought the BD from Japan and just never got around to watching the fansubs. It was pretty good from what I recall, far better than the boring ass Red Requiem movie.

I do hope Beast of White Night is next.
