'nother interview, covers much the same ground. I gotta say, I do find it interesting to hear about the process in-depth, as dubbing live action movies seems a bit like a lost art and learning about how it's done kinda takes you back to what it must've been like in the day. I love the G2K commentary track because for much the same reasons.

Was thinking about these dubs recently, and decided to hit up Winckler's FB page to see if there were any updates. It turns out that aside from Ultraman Saga, he's also dubbing Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy, and Revenge of Belial. They were recording as recently as June.

^I really would like to see those, now especially - as it seems Ultraman Geed is basically a sequel to those movies.

Love that Winckler is such a nerd about this stuff he goes out of his way to credit Earl Hammond, the original Hayata dub voice.

It sounds like they're still looking for a buyer. Doesn't Netflix or Amazon want it? They both carry the series in Japan.

Streaming would be great, but I can't say how much I'd love to own more Ultraman on disc.

I'm surprised they didn't get Robert Axelrod for Belial, (But kind of glad)...he's been a typecast villain for several of Winkler's other productions...Looks like they are getting some good fresh new talent, I'd love to have a box set of all 6 of these films if they ever get a North America media release.

^That's because Winckler is so keen on synching up to the Japanese mouth movements, right? You know, the more the movies consist of various Ultraman talking to each other the less of that there should be.

I was thinking about this limited release about a week or so ago and checked back at Winckler's Facebook page, and there were some Ultraman related updates... but then I was distracted by something and forgot all about it, and in the meantime, Winckler made his page private. Two of the posts were pictures of his English dub cast next to pictures of the characters they play; one of them was a group shot of the human cast from Revenge of Belial, one was of actor G. Larry Butler as Ultraseven (presumably from Ultra Galaxy).

The third post was something different and I'm kicking myself for not posting about it sooner. It's a photo of Winckler and another man in what looked like an old west town, with a caption to the effect of "Ultraman producers William Winckler and (a Japanese name I can't remember) scouting locations for a ghost town". I had looked up the name immediately afterwards, and he was a legit Tsubaraya guy who had gone independent but was still doing work for them. No idea if this was a real statement about a forthcoming production, or just being humorous about meeting a Tsuburaya vet.
EDIT: To the best of my recollection it was Ultraman Max producer Takeshi Yagi, but I still have no link :/

I just thought these were worth noting as the initial announcement of the theatrical releases was in early December of last year. And coming into that, a series of posts from Winckler reminding people the dubs still exist.

I know I've got the Hong Kong Blu-Ray for the Ultraman X movie (region 1 and with English subs!) underneath the Christmas tree, so I guess because of the law of irony we'll have an announcement regarding the American release of these films around... December the 24th?

But seriously, I expect for Tsuburaya to make a move into markets like the North America soon. I expect that's partially the reason behind the Ultraman anime and the already long-running manga: two forms that travel far easier than Tokusatsu these days.
