Ultraman Great & Powered DVD releases....?

Did either of these two get DVD releases? I know that Great got two R3 DVD releases in which episodes were merged to make "movies" but I'm referring to having the full episodes in their uncut form. I have VCDs of each series and I know Great (Towards the Future) was released on VHS here in the US during the early 90s. But I can't seem to find any evidence that these were released on DVD in the Asian market (I know they weren't released "officially" in the US on DVD).

I can't find it, but I swear I saw a Japanese ad recently for the Blu-Ray releases of Ultraman Ace, the Zearth movies, Great, and Powered.

^ Suit designs/concepts are fantastic, but the suits move terribly. I don't think it's a matter of not wanting to damage them, I think it's a matter of them hardly being able to walk in them.

From my limited viewing, I'd say Great is a lot more competently made than Powered.

Powered aka The Ultimate Hero should have been shown on American television. It would have been popular and we might get some more episodes of that series if it were.

^I really wish that were true. Towards the future aired on American TV back in 1991 (or maybe 92 cant remember)...btu anyways, where I lived it was on early Sunday morning.... got one cycle thourgh its 13 episodes then it was done, no reruns. Whereas I know in the bay Area from visiting friends & relatives, it was on for at least a year showing its 13 episode cycle in reruns.

The suits in Powered looked amazing, as was the FX. The execution of the fight scenes however was awful, which is why I think nobody picked it up. I think it would have done about the sam as TTF. It would have been doomed to some horrible time slot in syndication, and fluttered away in less than a year. At least "Toward the Future" had a toyline & Video game tie-in. (I know Powered had a game too on the Panasonic 3D0, but again a failed console for a failed show...) I have all the episodes in various formats, but a legit DVD release of "Toward the Future" and "The Ultimate Hero" would be nice, such as they are.

I'm sure most people are probably aware of this already but just in case both shows are getting released on blu-ray. Ultraman Great is getting released in January and Powered in March.

Since both shows were originally produced in English I would purchase them if they had removable subtitles and had the original English language audio (in addition to the Japanese dub these no doubt come with), oh and if they cut the price by 80% --Why would I pay $150 for a one or two disc set??--This should sell for no more than $25.

I bought the "movie" version of the first six episodes of Ultraman: Towards the Future/Great on VHS here in the UK in the early 90's after spotting it in the local WH Smiths, not knowing anything about it or Ultraman at the time. As a huge fan of Godzilla it was a great introduction to a whole new series of giant monster action, and I really, really enjoyed it. It was a little while later when I was round at my cousin's house that I saw an actual episode on Nickelodeon that wasn't part of the "movie", and realised it was actually a TV show. I'm not sure if I ever managed to catch all the episodes, but I'm pretty sure I saw most, and of course I have the strongest and fondest memories of those first ones that made up the content of the tape I had.

Every now and then for years I've checked in on various sites and searched around to see if there's ever been a proper DVD or Blu-ray release, and always come up empty. I've got a lot of nostalgic love for that show, even though I'm not sure how well it might stand up today, or how good it would be for someone watching it fresh for the first time. I still really like the suit designs they had though. Some really cool monsters there.

So yeah, like O.Supreme says confirmation on the language and subtitle situation would be key, since obviously it was produced in English. Chrome's "translate" function only works so well, but it looks like it might be available with both the dubbed Japanese and original English-language dialogue options plus removable subtitles, which would be perfect if true. And it does say "region free". The only problem now is the price. But damn......that nostalgia!

It looks to me like Towards the Future (Ultraman Great) might have been edited on video. If that's the case, that means Tsuburaya either upscaled SD footage or went back to the original footage and re-edited it on film (as CBS did with Star Trek: The Next Generation). But again, that's supposing it was edited on video in the first place.

Great & Powered have been on Youtube for a while now. I don't think anyone was actually going to bite on those sets, but the idea of having them in tangible form, on Blu Ray sure is nice. I've got these along with half a dozen other Ultra Series in digital format, but to have them on disc, in HD quality, would be quite welcome.

I think I'm going to bite on the Towards the Future set, I have a lot of nostalgia for that series. These sets are expensive compared to the US, but the price is in line with other Japanese BD/DVD releases. Price per disc is about $45, but I've seen single discs going for $75 or more.
