Whaa?! I have not seen this series, good news

I've only seen one episode of this series, so this is great news!

Great news. This is the Ultraman show I most wanted to see next. It's great to see that the franchise is proving popular enough for Crunchyroll to keep licensing them.

I've watched the first couple of episodes now. The miniature work is great, especially for the car park flooding scene in episode one, and the music is good too. Also, the guy who plays the commander looks familiar. Was he the submarine pilot in GMK?

The only problem so far is that I find the acting for the main character really distracting. Is Gamu supposed to have autism? I can't tell if it's intentional or not.

I think he's more of a distracted genius. He sees the solution to a problem and goes directly to it himself, rather than wait for others to do so. One of the things I'm liking about Gamu is that usually in these shows, the really smart science guy is left at the hq, doing analysis. Gamu, partly because he wants to be active in fixing things, and partly because he's Ultraman, isn't going to settle for that role. And there is more than a little ego involved as well.

I'm also noticing that as Ultraman Gaia, Gamu, at least in these early episodes, starts out a bit clumsily, he's not just Gaia's host, he is Gaia. And he's learning the ropes of being Ultraman as he goes.

Anyone know if this has been ripped from Crunchyroll like other series were? I prefer watching these on VLC. Same goes for Nexus.

I recommend watching on Crunchyroll itself, because making your way through some annoying ads (or paying the subscription fee) is what pays for them to license these shows from Tsuburaya,

^...Which, for all we know, could end up paying for DVD/Blu-ray releases down the road.

I'm usually not the type to binge watch, (just look at the many months it took me to finish Max and X!) but Gaia has really grabbed me and I've gone through 11 episodes in the past two days! I love the way they're slowly introducing all the different teams and I like that they put a lot of thought into making each monster a unique threat.

Just watched the Agul origin episode, which was great - and needed: him walking around brooding while sinister music played could only cut it for so long!

At first I was disappointed that they were going to frequently reuse monsters, but since they redesign them/modify the suits and put a radically different spin on how they're used now I love it.

I'm slowing myself down with Gaia, because I love it so much I don't want to burn through the whole thing too quickly, nor do I want to burn myself out with Ultraman. Watching a couple of Leo and Ginga episodes in the mean time.

... have I mentioned how great the music is in this series?

Just finished the mid-series Gaia vs. Agul 3-parter.

I love this series.

Gaia and Agul's victory handshake in episode 44 is adorable.

Well I finished the series. This is easily one of the top five Ultra series for me, maybe even top three. The overall story line, the conflict between the two Ultras, the remarkably well handled larger than usual for an Ultra series cast, it all sets Gaia above the "average" Ultraman series. And the final battle against the Big Bad felt more like the kind of battle you would see in the Ultra movies being put out at that time. I'm glad Crunchyroll put this out, and I'm hoping for more to come soon.

Watched the last five episodes tonight: terrific ending! The series lost momentum a bit after the mid-series confrontation between Gaia and Agul, but it built it back up again for a terrific finish. Just an immensely satisfying end, what with all the characters returning and various plots wrapping up.

I'm now watching the direct to video special/epilogue thingy on Youtube. Oddly, despite having Japanese audio and English subs, those English subs appear to be based on some foreign dub where the characters were all renamed, which is a tad confusing.
