Tried this show again. Just not my thing

Just finally wrapped up watching the whole series, with the final Greeza two-parter (Ep 21-22).

What an absolutely stunning show this has been! Coming from the dismal abyss of Ginga and Ginga S, I had little hope that X was going to be any good at all...and I'm still not a fan of X's suit design in general (too much bling for me), but Man-O-Manischewitz, did this show deliver on just about every level. Interesting premise, engaging characters, top-notch effects and overall cinematography, great action, and great storytelling. I've been an Ultraman fan since I first began watching the original Ultraman in 1967 (or was it '68?) in San Francisco, and my heart has always been with the early guys, but X has moved right to the top of my list of favorite Ultra shows. Absolutely superb.

Now to burn all these episodes onto Blu-rays from my DVR so my son and I can keep re-watching them! Wife needs the space on the DVR for her dramas...

Hope they can keep up this level of quality with the next show!

Disagree with everyone on episode 18: I loved the gentle, whimsical tone of the thing and it was a cornucopia of awesome miniature work!

Especially loved Red King grabbing the water tower off of the building and X gently placing it back. It was also a great episode of X characterization. Surely one of the most fleshed-out Ultramen in terms of character, right?

Finished the series... and wow! You know; I complained about the toyetic aspect, I complained about it getting bit too 'sentai-style' in the middle, but the series really overcame any complaints I had. It was very cleverly done.

Soooo... there's going to be a movie (please get the movie, Crunchyroll! Speaking of which, Tsuburaya should just make 'Ultraman movie series' a package and license that), and that will be the finale to X? The series was certainly open ended. I feel this show could be the beginning of a new continuity that could support a few more seasons or spin-off series.

...And yeah, I REALLY hope Crunchyroll can get the movie and more. Ultraman: The Next, pleeeeeaaaaase!!!!

You know it's really hit the fan when Ultraman has to put the entire cast in a conference call. And man; was Greeza creepy! I mean, the design was okay, but those sound effects and the way it moved was just freaky!

Yeah, X may not have given us a whole lot of new monsters, but the ones we got were home runs. I'll second the sound design in particular; that was one of the first things that caught my attention at the start of the show. This was just a really well produced show overall, even if the writing stumbled occasionally.
We NEED this on Blu-ray.

Finished this series this morning. There were a lot of "ingredients" in the mix which normally would turn me off from a show, but the execution and the "heart" of the show really overcame that and left me with a fun series that I really enjoyed.

I finally started on this show. Oh my goddddd.
This is the best Ultra-show (barring Neo-Ultra Q) since Max.

So I have the blu-ray and it's a wonderful package. Haven't actually sat down to watch the movie yet, though. Trying to figure out when the best time to watch it will be.

Anyway, here's the making-of documentary from the second disc:

So we watched the first 5 episodes just now and I have mixed feelings towards it. Is this series meant to be a sequel to Ginga? If not, it feels like it. The biggest annoyance I have though is the audio mixing is atrocious. It sounds like the dialog is coming out of a garbage can. I had to turn my volume way up to hear the dialog, which has made the sound effects extremely loud. I'm surprising the cops didn't come by for noise ordinance. The characters are not bad, but they aren't anything special either. I also find Daichi to just be a boring protagonist right now. Oh, and the cars and connect to highly advanced vehicles is kind of silly. That aside though, the miniatures and camera shots have been quite good and I have enjoyed the fight choreography. The fifth episode was really well done too.

We watched episodes 6-10 tonight. Well, we skipped that stupid 7.5 recap episode (at least they told us it was going to be a clip show so I didn't have to click on it and find out). These episodes were pretty good. The Gorgon monster's design was wicked and it was an enjoyable two parter. The one with Max rocked and the plant episode was interesting, however, the star of the episodes we watched was hands down the ninth episode. I do not care about sports one bit, but holy **** that episode was freaking fantastic. The comedy was spot on, the aliens were great, and the episode was just so damn entertaining. This is easily the best episode of the show thus far. In fact, the trio of aliens reminded me of the Three Idiots from Dairanger. I hope they return again because the episode seemed to end a tad abruptly without any sort of goodbye said between Isamu and the trio.

Oh, and it seems like they fixed their sound editing, so I'm not sure if it was the show itself or just a glitch with Crunchyroll last night, but I didn't have any issues this time.
