I'm not really a Disney fan per se, but there seems to be a lot of inconsistency here, granted, audience fickleness doesn't help. There are a lot of people saying they don't *want* shot-for-shot live-action remakes of the animated films, but those are the ones that seem to do the best Box Office wise (Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, and *seemingly* Lion King *have to wait and see on that one). Although this whole thing started with diverging from the source material quite a bit (Maleficent & Alice in Wonderland) were both pretty successful despite drastic changes.
I'm not saying changing Mulan wont work, but Disney's inconsistency just seems to be annoying. Either make them ALL faithful to the original, or make them ALL original new takes. Deciding what works and doesn't all *willy nilly* only confuses and frustrates audiences. I know a lot of people that like Dumbo, they just didn't like how much was left out from the original animated classic, or changed, thus it didn't do well. It seems pretty obvious that Disney's goal is to remake ALL their animated classic films in live Action. Sure some are higher priorities than others, but they will all happen eventually, to varying degrees of success. What we dont need are sequels. Why another Maleficent? (Did the *Alice* Sequel teach Disney nothing)? Also in doing research for this post I had forgotten there was a Snow White/Huntsman movie, and didn't even know there was a sequel!
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.
