After two films that were almost starting to feel like a real Mission Impossible ensemble, this looks like it's sliding back towards the Tom Cruise and Friends approach that wrecked the first three movies. Now, I enjoy Tom Cruise as an action star, but I've never understood why Mission Impossible, of all things, has been allowed to continue as his personal playground. I really hope this trailer is just misrepresenting the movie.

Years ago, long before the current blow up of information about Scientology, I had read articles alleging that Scientologists in the entertainment industry are encouraged/expected to help promote the work of fellow Scientologists in the industry.
Scientology does have a vested interested in Tom Cruise's personal success. It would take some digging, but I would not be surprised to find that some of the key people in getting the Mission Impossible movies made, with Cruise as the continued star, are also Scientologists.

I was completely oblivious to this movie series until the last one, which I saw and became one of my favorite movies of 2018! I'm totally down for the same team making two more movies, and in the meantime I can catch up on the rest of the series.

^ This current story kind of starts in MI:3, kinda like how the Fast&Furious franchise has a major franchise pivot

^ I saw the first two back when I was a kid! My unfamiliarity begins with the third. I'll probably just buy the box set of all the films!
