Point 1: did Gunn deserve to get fired for his tasteless edgelord jokes? Yeah, maybe - but six years ago. He's apologized time and again since and made a point to say he's moved on from being a shallow provocateur (the Troma mindset). His behavior has changed, and I don't see any reason to doubt his sincerity considering his consistent behavior in the years since.

Point 2 (the far more important point): these tweets weren't just miraculously rediscovered, this was all public knowledge. This was a coordinated campaign to get Gunn fired taken up by known gamergate/alt-right personalities, all of whom, I should point out, have said things equally tasteless only not joking. This isn't concerned citizens we're talking about, these are people who didn't like Gunn trying to get him fired. They're worse then hypocrites because they know they're B.S.ing us.

This is toxic people, highly organized, making a goal and achieving it. I wonder who they'll go after next?

This is "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" bullshit!!

First off, the comments were from NINE years ago. That's like your boss coming up to you when you are 40 and asking, "Hey, is it true you punched a classmate in the face when you were 12," and then firing you for saying yes.

Secondly, it's social "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" media, NOT the real world. No one was physically harmed. What goes on online has NO bearing on the real world. I'm so sick and tired of this world where people are so easily offended by anything, including jokes. Should we ban every comedian from comedy clubs and tv specials? They say a whole of a hell lot worse on a daily basis.

Third, if the dumbass piece of "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" citrus tyrant in the white house can post whatever the hell he wants on Twitter without any repercussions, anyone can. I'm tired of this double standard where that fat "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" can get away with whatever he wants but no one else can.

Finally, this is it, this is where the MCU crumbles. This is the sign that everything is going to be crashing down like a burning building on 9/11 for the MCU. Oh I'm sorry, did I offend you? Let me grab my jar to savor your tears in.

When I heard this all i thought about was Jame Gumb and started doing Silence of the Lambs quotes. "Was she a great big fat person?" "Would you?" "Put the lotion in the f*cking basket!"

I always kept thinking of that character when James Gunn gets mentioned for Gaurdians of the Galaxy.

^ I think Disney would've been entirely in the right to fire Gunn six years ago, just as the case with Rosanne (who's support of extremist conspiracy theories was always the scariest thing about that situation for me, a fact not touched on in a lot of the coverage, but I digress). The equivalent would be if Rosanne made those tweets years ago, and in the years since apologized and made a point to discuss her growth and the things she's learned - talked the talk and walked the walk - and then, years after all that she was fired. I would be against that, too.

But this is besides the point. Gunn will land on his feet, Disney will probably find a promising replacement - I'm worried about the (entirety insincere) group that staged the campaign and what they'll do in the future. We love movies and pop culture, but all that's unimportant compared to a burgeoning movement containing facist-sympathisers, white nationalists, violent misogynists, and the like.

With two films about characters most people hadn't heard of going on to gross over $1.5 billion worldwide, I would bet he bounces back a lot faster than Gibson.

To me, this just underscores how difficult it will be to stand up to Disney once they've cornered so much of the market in movies and entertainment. If you anger Disney, just how much does that limit your career?

Bautista is taking it a step further now. Says he'll quit altogether if Gunn's script isn't used.

This will be very interesting. I know Kain has been proclaiming this the death of the MCU...it'll be extremely interesting to see how they handle the situation if they do in fact lose Bautista over this. It'd be really their first MAJOR recast (Ed Norton to Mark Ruffalo is what I'd call minor since The Incredible Hulk has nearly been forgotten, it also happened so early that the MCU barely felt like it existed at all).
