‘Transformers’ to Lean into Love Stories in the Future

Umm...no..just no. I mean, the only way this would appeal to someone like myself if they kept it as youth friendly as say, the original animated series episode "Search for Alpha Trion" that first introduced the world to female Autobots and a love interest for Optimus Prime. Other than that, it could easily like IDW comics and would be weird & uncomfortable. Still I don't think general audiences would want to see two Autobots (one male and one female) have this mutual respect, and *possible* romantic connection that doesn't really have any consequence. So to me its a no win situation best just to avoid altogether.

^ I wonder why Lego 2 flopped? First was a huge hit and response to the sequel was positive. Maybe it's a lesson that you don't follow success with two spinoffs before the actual sequel? Oversaturation?

people DID show up. But the reason why it didn't make *Billions* like the others, is because the audience isn't as easily swayed. It's like turning an Aircraft Carrier. After 3 really awful sequels, its going to take at least 2 really good ones to get people back on board (I'm not a fan of the Fast & Furious films but I saw a smimiliar battern after the low point of film #3). If they go "back to Bay" formula on the next one, they will have undone all the good they did with BB., Starting to get some general audience faith back in the franchise.

I think a big part of the film underperforming (if it really did - I don’t really follow box office numbers) is that it was basically a remake of the first film with Shia Lebouf. It was a much better version of that movie, but ultimately it was really really REALLY similar. Audiences have seen the “a boy(girl) with his(her) car” origin story for bumblebee before. While this film definitely did a better job with that story, it didn’t really do anything new or interesting. I liked the movie, but even so I felt a bit disengaged from it as I watched because it all had a bit of “been there, done that” feel to it. And it’s terribly unfortunate because I would MUCH rather *this* film have been the first transformers movie and the springboard from which to launch the franchise. But it’s not. It’s number 6 (!) in the franchise. And it’s only the second in the series that was any good (and it’s a pretty blatant rehash of the only other decent entry). Just too little too late I think. But going back to the bayformer crap is a huge mistake. Those films (excepting the first one, which is decent but not great) are pure garbage.

The film was profitable (Unlike TLK), making more than 3X its budget in WW gross, and was on a much more conservative budget, which is why they are going ahead with another film (or 2 more according to some sources). Especially if you look at domestic only, it made *almost* as much as TLK, but with almost 1/2 the production budget. If Travis Knight returned to direct a Prime/BB *buddy cop* adventure, which had as much heart as BB, and none of the trappings/influence of a Bay film, I'm sure it would do really well. But if they go back to Bay formula, it will be the end of the franchise for sure.
