So if any of you were totally into the Stranger Things synthesizer soundtrack like I was, I CANNOT recommend the synthwave station on Pandora Radio enough!! It's discovery has blown my mind.

And speaking of mind blowing discoveries, unbeknownst to me (but probably knownst to some of you), John Carpenter (yes, THAT John Carpenter) is an AMAZEBALLS synth musician. Seriously. Check it out!

Nothing is forever, but I'd be willing to bet I have my disks longer than I have Netflix service as it continues to change and get more and more expensive. In time it may change to something completely different, or a different company could come in and purchase the rights to individual Netflix shows like Stranger Things. Yes I know streaming is the future, but the only way I feel comfortable ever owning something is to have a physical copy of it in my possession.

You won't be disappointed. I'm eagerly awaiting season 2's release just before Halloween (very appropriate). It's the best collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Steven King that never happened.

^Bah! Stranger Things is awesome. Kain, I think you're probably pretty safe blind buying it (and I say that based on what you've said about movies over the years; not based on my own personal enjoyment of the series, much as I loved it).

And oh man I'm getting so excited for season 2!! We're starting to get into the Halloween spirit. My wife is making our kids' costumes ('66 Batman and Robin... they are ADOREABLE!!). We've got the house decorations up. We'll probably dive into Halloween viewing soon and Stranger Things 2 is going to be the icing on the cake!

Hey...y’all are more than welcome to buy Netflix series if you want...I just personally wouldn’t because it’s never gonna get removed from the service. Because it’s theirs.

As for Stranger Things itself...I’m somewhere between “it’s amazing and you’re totally safe and fine blind buying it” and “meh. It’s too nostalgia based”

For most of the series I was enjoying it, but most of that came from the nostalgia. Don’t get me wrong, it was GOOD (well written acted and directed) but it was just kinda...THERE. I felt no sense of urgency or anything about it. Then it was amazing for the final two episodes and they absolutely phenomenally stuck the landing and my overall opinion went up a notch. I’d give the final two episodes 5/5, the whole season a 4/5.

Well, I wasn't actually advocating buying the discs (cool as the packaging looks). But since Kain already expressed his intent to buy it, I was just saying I think it's a safe bet he'll be happy with his purchase.

^ i agree on the digital vs physical. Streaming is nice to have, but I have already "lost" digital movie copies because companies merge, go out of business, etc. I guess it's like buying something on DVD knowing that the tech will one day be as hard to find a player for as VHS has become.. but still i went 10+ years without watching Son of Godzilla and Hedorah because I didnt get them on DVD when i had the chance.

Huh? You can find working VHS players at thrift stores for under $10....The technology is still there. However I have converted any VHS film I have that I know doesn't exist on any other form yet to digital, but its on my hard drive (I still don't trust cloud based back up...). But DVD's are still thriving 20 years after their initial release (I purchased my first DVD 19 years ago, in 1998, Simitars TOMG). And they are still fully backward compatible with Blu Ray (and I assume 4K?), so they will still be playable for the foreseeable future.

I cant fathom previously owning a film or TV show, then not having the ability to watch it. Its why for the most part I got out of Video games. Having a library of games I could not play because the machines capable of playing them got too old and broke down to play them, and the current ones were not BWC infuriated me, so I, with few exceptions, gave up on the whole industry.

The standard Compact Disc is itself 35 years old. But has progressed from recording only audio, to Video, and the quality of the video and capacity of the discs keeps on increasing. Of course more streaming and digital libraries will become prevalent, but I think businesses are smart. I don't think they are going to stray (at least in terms of physical media) from a format that continues to be profitable. Some people have built up Music and Video libraries with tens-of thousands of titles. The VHS to DVD move hurt me a little, but if some physical form was to become the new standard and did not play the standard discs of the industry over the past 35 years, I think there would be a huge backlash.

I picked up the BD today so this weekend I will finally learn what all of the hype is about.

Well we watched the first disc today and damn, this show is what American Horror Story should have been. It's pretty enjoyable thus far with a great mystery, conspiracy theories, a possible monster, and a Silent Hill-esque alternate world. Love the constant X-Men remarks the toothless kid makes towards 11.

The one thing I want to see more than anything is Edward Cullen... I mean Steve, having a slow and painful death at the hands of whatever the monster is.

The music rocks, although, the Blu-Ray is probably one of the worst Blu-Rays I have ever encountered. Unskippable trailers at the beginning of the disc (one of which is like a 4 minute trailer for Season 2, which makes no sense to put on for Season 1). Secondly, they didn't bother to put a chapter stop after the opening credits to the show, so you either have to sit through the credits every time or fast foward through them, which can be annoying depending on the player. Thank the gods the PS3 makes fast forwarding simplistic.

If we didn't have friends coming out in the next hour, I would totally watch the other disc right now. Oh well, I can wait until tomorrow.
