Haven't read the article yet, just wanted to pop in and say that if Sony executives have any sense at all they'll snap up the movie rights to Samurai Jack and give Tartakovsky free reign in developing the movie.
Also, I'm so very disappointed that Tartakovsky wasn't able to continue with the Popeye movie; with what little we saw it looked like the movie would have been a wonderful reintroduction of classic Popeye.

I'm still gutted about Popeye... but after the Sony hack revealed a lack of awareness and competence at the studio I wasn't surprised when it happened.

Man, Genndy's in such a tough spot. He's managed to spin Sandler's dreck of an attempt at a family franchise into box office gold solely by the virtue of his brilliant animation, but those asshats at Sony have no idea what to do with this genius they've got. At least he seems to have a good/realistic sense of how the business works, which should keep him from being totally crushed.

^ I have no interest in any of the HT films, but I had no idea Genndy Tartakovsky was directing them. Good to see he is making it big for himself. I mean we all remember Dexter's lab, samurai jack, and Clone Wars...but I had no idea he was even still active in the business. Bravo to him.

Genndy's a genius, so it's just a matter of a studio with smarts to utilize him properly.

When I saw Spiderverse it felt like a revolution. It proved that stylized animation could tell the kind of adventure story that make up most blockbuster live-action films instead of simply talking animal films for kids. If Sony really goes this way with animation they could revolutionize everything. We could become like Japan, what animation being a viable medium for all sorts of stories.
