This is my new favorite Marvel movie. No offense to the first two Raimi films, but this is the Spiderman movie I've wanted to see since I was 8.

Oh my god, not only is this the best Spider-Man movie ever done, but it is also one of the best MCU movies done thus far. This is downright amazing! Spectacular!! The ultimate Spider-Man movie experience. It is superior to all of its predecessors. Holland and Keaton just kill their roles. 10/10.

I've heard nothing but good about things film, which definitely raises the bar, looking forward to seeing it sometime this weekend. I just have one point of contention (with fans, not with the film itself)...

I hear so much "Finally we have a teenage Spider-man"...Granted Tom Holland is great, and with a young face, even at age 19/20 when this was filmed, he could pull off being in high school. But he is now 21, and filming Infinity War.

I've heard *rumors* that all 3 films will feature Parker in high school which concerns me. I've read the original comics, but much of what I read in the 80's/90's as well as the animated series from those era's featured an older 20's/30's College/Post-College & later a married Peter Parker. Basically what I'm saying is that Spider-Man as a mature adult is more familiar to me than Teenage Spidey, same goes for the X-Men. Of course I know in comics, time means nothing since these characters ages always revert for some odd reason.

Like I said, I have nothing against this film, I haven't even seen it yet. I just hope that in future films we get to see Tom Hollands Peter Parker/Spider-Man as a young adult, going to ESU, working for JJJ (going to be hard to replace JK Simmons) , and meeting Gwen or MJ. Because honestly THAT is the Spider-Man I grew up with.

After all a 2nd film would be at age 22/23 playing a 17 year old, then perhaps even 25/26 playing an 18 year old by the 3rd film, which would be roughly the same age that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Macquire were in their FIRST films respectively. Trying to play the role of a teenager which at the time nobody cared about, but is now drawing so much criticism.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I thought he specifically said it was Italian?

O.Supreme, Peter is actually 15 in this movie. He even states such (twice actually).

I could see them jumping two years though when they get to the next stand alone movie. I wouldn't be surprised if he does graduate high school in the third one though, if not sooner. Then he can go to college and meet Gwen, the real MJ, and Harry.

Saw it yesterday. Thought Holland was amazing as Peter and as Spider-Man (something the others never accomplished. Macquire was a great Parker, and Garfield was good Spider-Man. but they both lacked severely with their alter-egos). Keaton was amazing, he was The Vulture in name only, but again, as with several other MCU villains they are not exactly true to their comic origins, but are usually hybrids, or changed to fit the plot of he story. I was OK with Parker's *fat (not Harry Osborn) best friend*, because he was someone new. Its just when the movie tries to be PC and make changes to already existing characters that kind of irks me. I know IRL 21st century high schools in many places are quite diverse, which is great. But when you start changing Flash, Liz, MJ, Betty Brant etc...it just annoys me. If they want to go that route than just change the names of those characters to something new, and I'd be fine with it, and as I've been told many times, since the majority of the audience other than hardcore comic fans don't care about minute characters, they wouldn't even know the difference (for the record I don't agree with this sentiment, its just what I've been told here on this forum and several other places).

Honestly, I'd love to see a film set in the early 1960's an as-close-to-possible rendition of the first issues of the spider-man comic series. But I'm sure audiences would never go for it, so probably the only way to do it would be in animated form. Also for the record, in time I could easily see Homecoming becoming my favorite SM film (I'm still undecided), but Raimi's SM (2002) by far feels more Lee/Ditko than Homecoming did.

^I think the diversity was done specifically to show what the real racial makeup of a neighborhood in Queens would be like today. Better to anchor Spidey in a real place, which I think is a big part of the character.

Plus, we've already seen Peter's social group look essentially like it did in the the Lee/Ditko/Romita run for 15 years with a white Mary Jane; two white, blond Gwen Stacys; and two white Harry Osbournes! If anything, they need to visual differentiate these people!

I got back from the movie about two hours ago. I really liked it, is it my all time favorite Spidey film not quite but very close second, I enjoyed SM2 more. Though I will say this Tom Holland is by far my favorite actor to play the character by far, he got every thing right.

Though I'm not a big fan of the Vulutre I did enjoy Keaton's performance as the character. Can't wait for the sequel and wonder what villians they're going to bring in. My guess is Kraven and Scorpion for sure based on the end credits scene. Fiege did confirm we're going to see villians not yet featured.

Could be Morbius. The director said he would like to do Blade in the next one, which Morbius is the only one who would make sense as a villain. I would be down for that since Morbius is one of my favorite Marvel characters.

You know, everyone keeps forgetting to mention

Saw it. It was good. Not great. Keaton was great, and I love finally having a couple of these Marvel movies with compelling villains (this and GOTG 2 both nailed it there), but the movie was missing...SOMETHING. It lacked heart somehow. I think because, even though there were good characters, none of the relationships between them felt like they had any substance. The actress who played Liz was BAD and there was NO chemistry between the two of them (you can argue "That's the point, because she's not "supposed" to be "the one" she's just a crush," but that still makes it a BAD relationship). Not enough between Peter and May or Peter and Stark or Peter and Happy to make those feel like relationships with actual arcs. So you're left with Peter and Ned, but that relationship never goes through anything. There are no ups and downs. There's no friction. Nothing defines that relationship. They're just nerd friends, and because Ned is let-in on the secret so early, he's just constantly understanding. Even when Peter bails on him and leaves him at the party, he's not mad at Peter, he's sad for his friend that everyone is picking on him while he's gone. This is the movie's biggest problem by a lot. It feels thrown together and inconsequential because these characters all seem like throwaways because there are no good, developed relationships.

There are other issues, but they're pretty minor. Not a fan of KAREN (though the rest of the tech I was okay with...an AI just pushes it too far towards Iron Man territory for me), the score is mostly forgettable (though the Vulture score is good, the rest is trash), the movie false starts one too many times and it got annoying, frankly, and I woulda liked to hear someone actually call him The Vulture (what is with ALL comic movies STILL lacking the testicular fortitude to just use the damned names?). Again, these are minor things, that, were they the film's only problems, it'd be a 4.5/5.

STILL, it's a fun movie. Peter is mostly dead-on. Vulture is GREAT and compelling. The humor is good, and very appropriate for a Spider-Man movie (and I loved the stuff in the suburbs showing how hard it would be for him to exist outside NYC), and I actually loved that it's a small scale movie. It's about illegal weapons, not the end of the universe. That's nice. I liked the diversity too, and especially that they didn't make a big deal of it. Flash doesn't NEED to be an Aryan jock jerk, he just needs to be a bully. Making him a smarmy rich little ba***rd is an inspired change, especially for such a minor character. I also thought the one kid on the Decathlon team, I think he was Indian (the one who rang the bell and said, "False") was funny. The overall plot and story was good too, and Peter's noble F-UPs were well-done, which is good, considering how easy it would be to botch and make him look like a moron/jerk. He's kept in the dark so much, that with what he sees happening on the streets, he thinks he has to act because nobody is listening to him. If they can just figure out a way that KAREN can be broken or something forever, it's pitch-perfect Spider-Man by the end, with him proving that he doesn't NEED the tech to be Spider-Man.

I could see it growing on me because of Keaton's Vulture, who's easily one of the two or three best villains of the entire MCU, but for now, I'm at like a 3.5/5, with room to grow, and it's behind Raimi's first film as my favorite Spider-Man film.
Gills.

I'm expecting Karen is going to go away as she was put there as a test to see how much Peter would rely on her.

I really, really liked this movie. Tom Holland is the best Peter Parker out of any of the feature films, both in and out of the Spider-Man costume, and like other MCU entries this film really emphasizes that it's the character and not the suit that makes the hero. The humor and overall tone is totally on point and the supporting cast is large and impressive. Michael Keaton steals the show as the Vulture, while Iron Man's inclusion works particularly well with how sparsely he's utilized.

In the early days of the MCU, it was disheartening to have Spider-Man excluded from the proceedings for such a long time, but Homecoming takes full advantage of the late arrival. The film draws from the rich world-building that's been done up to this point and manages to contribute its own subtle development to the MCU without ever losing focus on the relatively small-scale story at hand.

I like how Spider-Man's suit includes a projectile tracer and the ability to fire different types of webbing. Although the inclusion of the suit AI voice KAREN worked fine in this story, and getting Jennifer Connelly to voice her was clever (she's married to Vision actor Paul Bettany who previously voiced JARVIS), I do hope that doesn't become a staple feature of Spider-Man in future films, including next year's Avengers: Infinity War. I think it would detract from the character's overall appeal and establish him as basically an armorless Iron Man with webs. Since Homecoming (and Civil War) make it clear that Peter has only had his powers for less than a year, and since there's no evidence in either of these films that he boasts his classic precognitive spider-sense, maybe a future film can show him developing that power and how it messes with his head by clashing with KAREN's voice in moments of danger, so he decides to turn off KAREN and rely fully on his own senses from that point. I like the idea of his spider powers gradually manifesting over time because I'd like to see a sequel adapt "The Six Arms Saga" (or "Neogenic Nightmare" as it was called in the '90s animated series).

^that last idea sounds really cool actually. But not sure how they could have Peter turn fully into Man-Spider without it being nightmare fuel. Sure we all know he's cured in the end, but I recall my 11 year old self, and the internal horror I experienced when seeing Jeff Golblum transform into Brundle Fly (I saw it on cable about a year after it had been in the theater). Of course The Fly was meant to be horror, unlike Spider-Man, and there is a slight less realistic effect when using CG rather than practical effects, in this case, that slightly less realism might actually be beneficial.....odd I never thought I'd say that.
